90 Points

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. I found it on sale for $10, and thought "what the heck". It turned out to be wonderfully complex. A bit thin and acidic to be sure. And a few off notes. Not as smooth as I like a wine. But the fruit flavors (especially blueberry) were full force. There were also more subtle notes of tobacco, toast, and even a soft tannic underbelly that really set this wine apart. If it was a bit smoother and a little less sour on certain notes, then it would be solidly in the 90s. Perhaps laying a bottle down for a few years would achieve that? I'm just not sure how Petite Sirah's age...

Edit: The next night it was slightly smoother, with more fruit. Maybe a bit less acidic as well. Plus one point for that. Fantastic value.
