This wine just keeps getting better, and going to be sad when we finish the last bottles. Love the nose and the dark fruity spice notes it provides. A true to character PS of dark blueberry and mild spice. Fully and perfectly integrated at this point, with mild tannins. Does not need decanting, but a little air before drinking is still a good idea.

This wine was all about trueness to the grape. Color, nose and taste all screamed Petit Sirah. Well made and tasty. Dark Black-blue plum. Nose with fruit and earth. Taste leads with lots of grape and a touch of Oak; smooth and finishes with a solid but not overpowering Petit Sirah bite.

pleasantly surprised for that price. A bit light in body but nicely made for under $10 and I say that about very few wines in that price category.
A few things going on in the nose. Hint of oak. Haven't tried Concannon anything in many years. Seem to be doing a nice job in the lower end of things. I would buy again.

Thought this was quite nice. Strong nose, but not much fruit in it; more like brambles, cut grass and peppers. Nice dark color, as one would expect from a Petite Sirah. Lots of dark fruit, blackberries, blueberries, and spicy notes. A little short on the finish. Did not detect the harshness others have mentioned. This is ready to drink and will hold for several years. All in all, a nice representation of this varietal and very reasonably priced. Not a stunner, but a well-crafted and tasty wine. Good value.

Opened for grilled tri-tips (sirloin roast). Decanted about an hour beforehand to help take a bitter edge off. Popular with the cheese plate as well as the seasoned beef. Good stuff.

Not as drinkable as prior PS from Concannon. Not sure what role the 1.5L format played in that. Decanted to a large glass pitcher to try to take the edge of a bitterness from pop and pour. Seemed to open up some, but never really found its legs. Dark fruit and some earth -- no detailed notes. Served it at a party, so the entire bottle was emptied. Would have liked to see what an extra 12-24 hours of air would do for this.

Purple stained cork but not as dark as some syrahs I've opened. This is the third bottle of this producer I've opened and it seems to have returned to better form than the last. Possible vintage variation. It feels like there are some good tannins in this wine and it was pretty decent for it's price point. More fruit in this than last time as well. I can see this wine being one of the better values in budget table wines. right now, some budget malbec from Alamos are one of my go to table wines, but this has joined the ranks. Recommended. I would be interested in how it would age as well. Had a few producers of petite syrah, and this one has been my favorite.

Though still a great value, this 2005 was a bit of a dissapointment as I had recently tasted the 2002, which was superior. Nevertheless, if you enjoy Pitite Sirah, this wonderful wine from Cancannon will not disapoint you.

drink few PS ( remember Madrigal as being a huge grippy bottle - but then it was 3 times the average street price and a lucky find for us in Ont as it was being cleared out. Lets see how this opens up over the next 24 hours - will get a few more if still available at LCBO.

color: purple crossed with red velvet; nose: faint raspberries and some musty vanilla; taste: light-medium mouthfeel tasting initially of red fruit, non-descript and hollow mid-palate that transitions to sour cherry finish backed by chalky tannins; overall: meh -- a dull, disappointing package with no pop or strong point -- mediocre wine lacking the advertised "full-bodied richness" and "silky finish", which I would not buy again

Really nice, but I tend to go wild over PS, and this one seemed to be bending to the 'anti bomb' sect and it was a bit to thin for a varietal that I celebrate as it's usually always over the top - Dark, medium/full bodied with a nose of plum, fig, raision, cherry, spice and vanilla, nice balance, a touch simple, sour/smooth on the palate with good length (88 Points).

While this was a great wine when tasted previously, and the FLAVORS were all consistent, the wine was served quite warm...we ate dinner outside, with the temp in the 80's and this wine was warmer than that. Something to be said for proper wine storage, restaurant people!! We ended up adding ice cubes from our water glasses to the wine, to cool it down somewhat. That worked, with the added benefit of smoothing the wine out a touch. Never had wine that was warmer than room temperature. Granted, the place had no A/C and the day's temp was upper 90's...and wine was stored right outside the kitchen. FAIL.

Decanted 2 hrs, purple core with fuchsia edges. Smell is a deep, kind of earthy fruit, blueberry. Taste is pretty rich, lots of boyseberry, acidic, lots of tannins, some pepper spice from the alcohol. Very smooth and highly quaffable, the more we drank, the more we loved this. I will definitely buy more, really tasty wine for $13.

I don't know if this was just a bad bottle or if it was mishandled, but this was weak, thin, and overly acidic on the back end. It really surprised me, as this was the wine a couple years ago that got me into PS. Over the hill? Mishandled by BevMo? I'm not sure, but it was a big disappointment. I suggest the Bogle Petite Sirah 2006 instead. Much better, better than I even remember this being. The '07 Bogle is more structure driver, but the '06 has tons of blueberry pie action on the nose.

With sweet & sour pot roast, a fully flavored and moderately peppered strong red with a dry and lasting aftertaste. Yummy. With stir-fried beef, fantastic fruit flavors pair very well, and the wine has the strength to compete with peppers and soy sauce. Maybe the best pairing of the two, and steak, of course.

Another good value wine for stacking for daily drinking since it can be very versatile with different types of meals. Has a deep black purple color, even the borders have a dark concentrated colour . The nose is very aromatic but somewhat alcoholic at first, but let it breathe a while and it'll show a very fruity nose with cranberries, black cherry and black currant notes, the interesting part is it continues evolving as it gets air, it shows hints of pepper and I even get some slight bacon and red hot pepper. The palate has good body, with robust tannins but well integrated, not as alcoholic as on nose, jammy fruit and a touch of oak. On day two the wine has still much the same character but has evolved into something more delicate, the colour has lighten up a notch, the nose is not as alcoholic and it still has very nice fruit, even though it doesn't show the back spiciness it had before. On palate is smoother and the fruit is not as jammy as before. This is a good QPR, versatile, enjoyable and I think it can hold up well for another 4 years, I even think it can evolve gracefully. Highly recommended for the price.

I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. I found it on sale for $10, and thought "what the heck". It turned out to be wonderfully complex. A bit thin and acidic to be sure. And a few off notes. Not as smooth as I like a wine. But the fruit flavors (especially blueberry) were full force. There were also more subtle notes of tobacco, toast, and even a soft tannic underbelly that really set this wine apart. If it was a bit smoother and a little less sour on certain notes, then it would be solidly in the 90s. Perhaps laying a bottle down for a few years would achieve that? I'm just not sure how Petite Sirah's age...
Edit: The next night it was slightly smoother, with more fruit. Maybe a bit less acidic as well. Plus one point for that. Fantastic value.

I opened this and did not have too much time to decant. We drank this with a great ground lamb/bulgur/tomato dish my chef friend brought over. I found it a little thin. We agreed it would be very different the next day. Drank a glass the next night. Color is great. Scent of blueberry, cherry, cedar and marzipan/almond. Unfortunately, taste the next night was not any deeper or better. Moderate cherry and chocolate flavor, but taste and structure disappeared in an instant. Very limp palate in my opinion. I was expecting more even at $12.

Irritating oversize bottle. Leather, red fruit, herbal, with good snap and fine tannins. Hard to believe that a relatively inexpensive wine in such an ostentatious package can be this good, but it is. Superb match with lamb. Very Good.

you know, I haven't had many petite sirahs and this isn't a bad wine (nice QPR at $14). The complaint is the wine was a touch thin; and while there are some pleasant fruit tastes, they are a bit muted. Overall I'm glad I tried it, but prob wouldn't do again.

Reliably good as always, with aromas and flavors of dark candied fruit, spice, and smoke that are smooth and soothing. Subtle notes of oak, minerality, and vanilla provide some complexity. A full-bodied, simply delicious wine.

Great value wine. Crowd pleaser. Chameleon, goes with steaks fresh off the grill to chicken salad sandwiches. Need to get another bottle for more detailed notes but could use more tannins to balance the fruit/acid up front for higher score but overachieves as is. CMS A-

Visiting Napa & All Around; 8/2/2008-8/18/2008 (California - USA): Perfect pair for a roasted burrito and caesar salad dinner. Dark colour for a typical in its class: fruit in chocolate, black licorice well integrated: full-bodied wine with a short sweet entry and a bitter aftertaste. It is perfectly ready but improve in the next few years for sure.

Lots of nice blueberry, a bit thin in the mouth, hints of vanilla, oak, orange rind, and baking spices coming through as it breathes. Wonderful, abundant, soft tannins; great acidity, decently lengthy finish. Even better than the very nice '04 -- the blueberry is more in tune with my palate, and IMO, more in line with the traditional flavor profile of a PS. Can't wait to see how this will evolve. Kudos to Concannon for putting a wine like this out, including a really nice bottle with a punt and 3D etching of the Concannon logo, for the price point -- I got this one for under $10 in Cali, and it's regularly available for under $14 even on the East Coast. 90+.

Fruit Grenade... this wine needs time... I don't have a decanter, or that may have helped. regardless, very promising, very pure fruit and great depth already. Amazing quality for the money.

Nice, and worth the money, but not all that complex and not a great wine.

It is perfectly ready but improve in the next few years for sure.

Great every day drinker. Jammy fruits, nice smooth transition but a little (just a little) light on the finish. I'm going back to buy more.

On the lighter style for PS. But this is about the best $10 PS Ive found. Just pure clean fruit all the way through. It's not going to wow you but for an everyday drinker its a nice wine. Good value

Failed to take notes, but this was a wonderful PS that opened up nicely in the glass and lasted well for several hours. Great QPR. A wine to buy more and cellar, and enjoy tasting periodically to see how it develops.
