Thursday, May 14, 2020 - This was a critique on what a renowned vigneron can do in a lousy vintage. On opening, translucent ruby with substantial clear rim; classic Vogue nose/palate of a mountain of brooding fruit nearly completely obstructed by a more immediate wall of tannic structure. It is a lesson in how this Domaine’s wines never seem ready but when you open one and follow it over several hours, it can be quite intriguing. Slowly opened to some really nice underlying character, becomes more floral, spicy and complex while the textural grip loosens. Still a fairly firm style that can disappoint anyone looking for softer, more complex, relaxed and ethereal, evolved burgundy.
On 2nd day, still stretching it’s legs. Some day I will open a Vogue wine that’s ready to go! I do have a ‘78 Musigny, hmmm,...
