Tuesday, May 9, 2023 - Branaire-Ducru has really done something special in 2022; despite the warmth of the vintage, Branaire has crafted a wine of fabulous elegance. Tasted twice, this shows a billowy, aromatic nose full of raspberry, plum, and boysenberry with a lovely, lovely delicacy despite its plush softness. The berries were the smallest ever here, ~1gm for the Cabernets (not unusual in 2022) with yields of 30-35hl/ha, harvested Sept 12-24. This is the first vintage made in the new cellar, which is spectacular and expanded the number of fermentation vats substantially to allow for much more precise parcellar picking. While I'm always skeptical of "best ever" titles, I think it's pretty clear that this is the best vintage of Branaire Ducru produced to date.
