Thursday, March 15, 2007 - Roediger Tasting - Southern Rhone to the Costrieres de Nimes (Stellenbosch): 13.5% alc; Grenache-led with Syrah, Cinsault, Muscardin, Counoise. Medium garnet to dark cherry in colour, the wine has a reticent nose with elements of iodine, mineral, violets and black fruits but all very sotto voce.
An elegant wine that is more full than the medium body I expected offers ripe blackberry, wood smoke and black plum. It feels fresh and clean with a long finish. It got better in glass; this is still unwinding and will take a few more years to completely unfold.
