95 Points

Sunday, February 14, 2010 - Decanted 1/2 hr before starting to drink. Color is lighter red. Aromatic from the uncorking. The nose is extremely complex and a delight to sense: char, leather, earth notes, cedar, and cigar. The first taste had lots of acid and was silky on the backend. The wine produces an explosion on the palette: cassis, pencil shavings, ocean sand with some mushroom on the backend. Quite complex also. Not the most concentrated wine, but what is there has great balance. Tannins well integrated. Long finish. This wine is at its prime. Every sip is different. Full of finesse. Could use some more length and evolution in the mouth for a higher score. Bright and lean as opposed to rich and brooding.
