Celebrating big occasion, and the wine did it's part. Rich. Concentrated. Delicate. Intense. Decanted, very needed due to lots of sediments. First time we had a wine from this castle. Splendid!

Complex nose here, with smoky tones, cedar chest and maybe an iodine note as well. Lighter-bodied on the palate. Given the vintage, this is drinking pretty decently at this point, with a savory finish. No indication of decline here at this time.

Mouth drying tannins, lots green bell pepper, definitely past its peak but still quite enjoyable. Still yet elegant and classy bit lacks the Grand vin-feeling
This is a weak vintage for sure and I would not have bought this one again
Finale correcte. A boire .

Light and soft, with a core of red berries. Fine acidity, but lacking weight. By now this is past it´s prime so better drink up, still a rather pleasing red bdx, with a fine, mature feeling about it. Feels fragile but elegant.

Popped and poured a sample taste before dinner later today.
Great Bordeaux nose, with a distinct tobacco/cigar box note that is very appealing.
Somewhat dilute on the palate, though - a nice "luncheon claret", with blackberry fruit and good acidity. Given the vintage, still in pretty good shape, but probably a wine best drunk up over the next decade.

Bouteille et bouchon impeccables. Mid neck.

Lovely fragrant, typically st Julien nose, tobacco, leather, herbaceous. Didn't really improve appreciably after 1.5 hours in decanter. Very light in mouth, less interesting. Drink up.

Popped & poured; an initial musty note blew off quickly to reveal ripe blackberry fruit and ferrous/iron notes.
Medium-bodied on the palate, slightly dilute but pretty nice, especially when taken in the context of the vintage. Sweet/tart blackberry fruit, and reasonable persistence on the finish. The nose here is more complex than the palate.

Decanted 2 bottles in succession, with identical notes. Deep, shimmering ruby color. Complex and integrated, with fruit still youthful. Earth, tobacco, and dark fruit flavors, with black pepper on the finish. Oak a little more dominant than expected. Silky mouthfeel. Thanks to Eric for sharing.

This keeps being outstanding and might last another10-20 years (certainly longer than me). My score compared to the other 2 I have consumed this year might have been influenced by the fact that it was just waaay more pleasurable than the other 3 wines consumed. I will try not to drink the one remaining for at least a couple of years.

Still a nice drinking experience, with floral, red fruit, cedar/pencil shavings, touch of barnyard (on P&P) nose, soft on the palate with red fruit predominating and very little tannins showing. Probably time to drink the rest of mine ssoon.

liked it very much that evening, while a light claret, I enjoy very much its balance, its fruits do not show the age of this wine. Friend who shared the bottle with me, thought the wine was too much of a light weight, so i am putting 92 only, otherwise I was ready to grant 93-94. I still find this wine a great value/money proposal.

Dark ruby; opaque. Browning slightly. Still has nice legs. Very lovely bouquet; sandalwood, sweet fruit, very feminine and pretty. Red fruit to the fore. In the mouth, it is a round, plump, sweet, fruity wine, with tannins completely resolved. This is drinking beautifully! Amazing for such an unheralded vintage. Almost no sign of decline, though it won't last but a few more years. Fantastic revelation. Only a slight drying on the finish. Wow! 4-13-16-9: 92/100.

Nose of black currant, cigar, pencil, leather, and earth. It opens up after 2-3 hours in the glass. Good acidity, chocolate, black berry, and a medium finish. Better than I had 5 years ago. Tannin has softened. Should drink now.

Similar to the '91 at the same dinner, but not quite up to that high standard. Same pencil shavings, floral/fruit nose, not as lingering on the finish, but a well made wine with time left for cellaring.

Perhaps a higher score as I am partial to the lead pencil, leather, earth, barnyard of LLC. Not austere but definitely not a terrific vintage. Cherry and blackberry are the predominate fruits. Opened and left in the bottle for 3 hours. Should have decanted as the last sips were the best. This bottle was right in its drinking window but will last for another 8 years, at least.

Decanted 1/2 hr before starting to drink. Color is lighter red. Aromatic from the uncorking. The nose is extremely complex and a delight to sense: char, leather, earth notes, cedar, and cigar. The first taste had lots of acid and was silky on the backend. The wine produces an explosion on the palette: cassis, pencil shavings, ocean sand with some mushroom on the backend. Quite complex also. Not the most concentrated wine, but what is there has great balance. Tannins well integrated. Long finish. This wine is at its prime. Every sip is different. Full of finesse. Could use some more length and evolution in the mouth for a higher score. Bright and lean as opposed to rich and brooding.

1990's Bordeaux (Pappas Bros.): The nose had a great raspberry and leather mix, followed by cherry, spice, and a slightly floral finish. The palate had leather, cherry and raspberry, and a spicy oak finish.

Tasted side-by-side with the 1997 Las Cases - which it clearly outpowered. I am very surprised that this wine was so good, coming from a terrible vintage. Perfectly mature, strong cedarbox and leather/tobacco. This will live for several years more - as it improved over the 4 hours it was consumed.

Decanted for Sunday dinner. Early on, good grip, usual St Julian profile of earth and musky bordeaux scents. Finishes somewhat clipped and lacks richness and depth. I doubt the wine will improve in the next few years. A decent drink for $40 and to accompany a Family dinner of NY strips.
As I sipped the remaining glass later this evening, the wine had rounded out. While maintaining its original flavors, the wine refused to gain more depth and richness.

Still very dark ruby color with only a slightest hint of lightening. A very nice nose of cassis, blackberries, wood spice and tobacco. Some development in the form of secondary characteristics (smoke cedar, hint of leather). Despite the bad year, I can't detect any green notes in this wine. Surprisingly full and dense on the palate. Perhaps this is not surprising considering the concentrators used at Las Cases... Nevertheless, it does not seem to have yielded an unbalanced wine. Lovely palate with still some tannin to resolve. In the end, I blieve this will dry out, but it can surely go for a while. I would, however, drink them soon as this wine is drinking very well at the moment and I fear it will go downhill slowly. Of course not one of the greatest LLC's, but very enjoyable, especially for the bargain price. Drink now to 2008
