92 Points

Saturday, January 7, 2017 - Barolo Saturday late night at ES.
Tasted blind. Poured into decanter and drank over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of milky vanilla oak, red plums, red cherries, sweet spices, slight earth, slight floral roses. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red plums, red cherries, sweet spices, licorice, slight vanilla oak. Long finish.
Very good quality, considering the vintage. Not very deep or complex, but will provide enjoyable drinking pleasure as it develops over the next 5 years. Some touch of modern style oak here, but thankfully just enough for it to be tasteful.
From Via Nuova cru in commune of Barolo. From their website: Spends 2 years in new French oak.
