Wednesday, July 13, 2016 - Dinner at Jade Palace. This was a marvellous wine. The only way the Engel was slightly better was in terms of the complexity and opulence. This was deep ruby red, touch of bricking at the rim. Lovely perfumed nose of crushed berries, dried roses, violets, cigar box, new leather and sandalwood. There was dirt, soil and this was a lovely matured wine touching the hearts of the most ardent Burgundy drinker without breaking the bank. Real firmness on the palate, with the elegance, acidity, length and good amount of matured fruit. In fact, other than a quite stunning bottle of Rousseau Chambertin 83 consumed some time back, this would probably be the best 83 I've had. I felt this went better alone, without the interference of food, and that's still probably the best way to appreciate a good aged Burg. Truly remarkable!
