Saturday, April 15, 2023 - "I'm not having a glass of wine; I'm having six. It's called a tasting and it's classy." (Chicago, IL): This was my favourite of the syrahs today, and it was up against some very stiff competition, including the 1989 Chave and 1999 Gallet. But man, this is the epitome of classic Allemand -- that silky texture intermingled with ripe black fruit, floral tones, olive brine, and just the right balance between rusticity and polish. Drinks like it's at peak (or at least some sort of local maximum) right now. Like the other syrahs on the table today, this is another example of the way syrah ought to be. Absolutely stunning stuff from Allemand.
