Saturday, December 31, 2016 - Ringing It Out, Ringing It In-Three Days of New Year's Celebration; 12/31/2016-1/2/2017 (San Francisco): Full golden color. Strident grapefruit aromas. Full, bordering on heavy but saved by surprising (for the varietal), vibrant acidity. Moderately sweet, some high tones of botrytis, apricot fruit, moderately long finish without any Gewurztraminer cyanic bitterness. I don't love the varietal, but I did admire this wine, finding it fresher than expected for its age and not as overwhelming as Zind Humbrecht VT wines can be. As the generous provider of this bottle noted, probably more interesting than delicious. And so 2016 comes to a close.
