Saturday, June 2, 2012 - Premox issues? Not here. But out of concern for the possibility (Bonneau du Martray has one of the highest instances of pre-ox), I pulled this monster instead of letting it settle in for years of slumber. Gorgeous in the glass like sunlight on a brilliant June morning. The bouquet fills the room with apple, apple pie, lemon curd, baking spices, cream, sweet butter and . . . hazelnut. The silken mouthfeel requires another moment of reflection. Enjoying it slows the pace of the meal and draws out the evening. The hazelnut finish goes on forever. Just now, the wine is big, powerful and masculine . . . and way too young. It’s a very big wine - but decadently delicious. From magnum. Decanted for 30 minutes plus. 13.6% alc. With cioppino and asparagus for BBH’s visit as we make the last sorting of pictures and finalize cleaning out our mother’s house - a bittersweet time. Highly Recommended.
