Brought this to a dear friend’s birthday dinner, pale yellow, green apples, lemon, powerful, concentrated, mouth coating, quite full bodied, lots energy, v long, still young 94+

8th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, pale and youthful, bit simple and light for CC, blind I'd probably think it GC Chablis, hard to tell where this is heading, attractive drink nevertheless and with some style, just not up to usual BdM standards, no rush and may yet round out as indeed some of the bottles have, just not this one. F (17.5).

7th of 12, opened an hour, apparently perfect cork and level, way off last couple of bottles and with pronounced nutty overtones as in August 20 bottle, still drinkable and attractive but far from what it should be and I suspect light cork taint, normally plenty of upside and no rush. This bottle VG+ (16.5).

Seventeenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Hughes House - Chicago IL): In 12/08/07 vertical. Superb energy and concentration, still wonderfully fresh and vibrant through to its very long finish. While the 2008 vintage was better than 2007 for their first decade, this vintage is now the rockstar, and most likely has even further upside from here.

It is always with fear I open one of these bottles. Previous experiences with premox are the reasons for this. But the, how satisfying it is to find a perfect example at the perfect age for this wine: 15 years. Clear straw color with hints of green. Very young. Classic nose of green apples at first, then the underlying sweet, almost tropical fruit (peach and lime), all topped with a hint of green olives and chalk. Medium to full bodied attack, smooth mouthfeel, and an almost buttery consistency on the palate. Then a searing acidity kicks in, leaving the finish on citrus, green apples and lime. Extreme length, sits for well over one and a half minute and develops fine mineral/olive tones all the way to the end. Not the expansive Burgundy a la Meursault, more like an elegant Chablis. This is just a top wine, but it is still too young. Believe me or not!

really classy and did not have time to think critically as I was prepping and cooking but very lucid and sunshiny fruits with bold entry and then fans out to a palate cleansing finish that encourages another sip. Disappeared too quickly.
This was stored well and seems to be at some sort of peak. I assume it could have another 5+ years.

Meals in France; 3/21/2022-3/26/2022 (France): Rich from beginning-to-end, starts out very rich, while finishing brighter with very good length. Very exciting overall, most notably on that finish.

Christmas Eve 2021 (Home): Pale yellow, the aromas are mineral, crushed rocks, chalk, lemon and lime zest even some raw meat. The entry has penetration and breadth with a lovely oatmeal, chalk and mineral grip. As fresh as a daisy, the core contains a strident acidity and robust mid-palate texture containing cooked Bramley apple, Forelle pear and crushed rocks. A clipped wine it races to a long finish.
Blind. Spice, lanoline, citrus, and schist, some funk; very good acid, substantial concentration and length, chewy with almost a tannic finish. Appear very young, lacks a bit of complexity through, which may emerge with additional cellaring (94-95 potential)

6th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, beginning to show at last from my cellar if still ridiculously pale and young, put on significant weight, starting to round out whilst still fresh and nervy, very complex with fine CC typicity and GC weight and energy, very persistent, significant upside here. VF (18.5) for now.

Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux): What can I say. It's white burg which is not my jam but is the jam of basically every other person who drinks wine and so I took a small pour and thought eh and everyone else thought how lovely and no premox and very fresh and what a good pairing with the lobster.

Lovely, mature burg. Lots of citrus, mature apples, peach and hints of melon. Hints of honeysuckle and a touch of anisseed. On the palate still good energy but also nots and orangerind. Very long, slightly salty finish. Great stuff!

Dinner with the wine group (Millbrae, CA): Golden; creamy, still needs time to open up; full bodied, white fruits, richly textured; long finish. A bit tight, will benefit from decanting. 92++ On retaste over the next few hours, this opens up quite a bit. The combination of rich texture and fresh acidity and lemon-lime tartness is striking and provides an energy and class to this wine which is intriguing. 93

The Roots Fund Grand Cru Charity Dinner (Home): 10/08/07. My favorite of the flight. This had the flamboyant and inviting nose of the 2010 with so much fresh fruit, florals and spice while showing a more settled in poise and complexity. Fresh, nuanced and so balanced. WOTF.

The Roots Fund Charity Grand Cru Dinner (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): In vertical. Apple and floral notes throughout, this is very dense, powerful and structured, with the fruit to carry through its enjoyment to a long, bright finish. Very minerally and engaging textures. Still further upside here, consistent with previous bottles. I slightly prefer this over 2010, but there was clear disagreement at the table.

Prior notes:"Pale gold color. Nose showing lemon, orchard fruits, oyster shell, crushed stone. Palate showing apples, pear, lime, pineapple. Picking up some saline/salt air through the mid palate. Long and nuanced finish..."
Still showing well, a big hit with this group. Continued to evolve nicely over the time we drank it. Good amount of time left with this vintage. Perfect with the Farmstead fare...

Out of magnum at French Laundry: Amazingly fresh and clean with serious depth of fruit concentration and wonderful cut. Lemon curd flavors and tremendous minerality with wonderful structure. Hard to believe this is 14 years old. A serious experience and worthy of Grand Cru status.

Some smoky reduction coupled with notes of lemon curd and white peach. It is full and rich, cut rapier-like acidity and is long and linear. The finish is super-stony.

This is a wine I bought regularly from the early '90s until the 09 vintage, and I have been afraid every time a bottle was opened due to premox. But when these wines are in pristine condition, they are just fabulous. Bright greenish color, incredibly young. Intense, but a bit unexpected nose dominated by vanilla, cardamom, a cool almost mentholated whiff, and a hint of Christmas cake (!). After an hour or so in the glass, more expected aromas of lime, green apples and a hint of butter, emerges. Medium bodied, intense attack in the first part of the tasting curve, and the the wine just expands into what I would characterize as an explosive finish: tropical fruit, lime, cardamom, vanilla and dried fruit. The acidity is very bright, and the aftertaste sits for minutes, and incudes a cool, mentholated flavor. Cuts through boiled lobster as easy as it does with grilled turbot in a butter sauce after that. Still to young, will benefit from at least five years more of cellaring (if you dare). One of the best white wines I have ever drunk and much better than previous bottles of this vintage.

Popped and poured. This is in excellent shape with no hints of premox. Nice nose of white flowers and minerals. The palate shows strong concentration but at the same time it’s light on its feet and sophisticated with great cut. Lemon oil, orchard fruit, and a small touch of tropical fruits culminating in a long finish. Terrific.

Maybe not quite fully mature, but not that far away if true. Superbly balanced between aromas of lemon zest, smoke, florals, sandalwood, light cayenne. Palate full of lemon, apple, cashew, steel. Beautifully poised. As much as I like food accompaniment, I think this one is best by itself or with a much lighter accompaniment than I usually pair with Corton Charlie. Think relatively bland chicken or white fish dish. Score : 93. Relative to expectations: +

my last of five... so nice to taste an (somewhat) older white burg and have it be both matured and still bright overall... this wine is at peak and was pleased the dinner guests!... not like a PYCM 2017 -- it nonetheless has enough lift / acidity to carry the beautiful minerality in the juice, and - like many '07's - its edges were rounded but in only the nicest of ways

Decanted for one hour prior to drinking. Pear, citrus and floral aromas. On the palate it is very beautiful -- stony & elegant with a bone dry finish and lingering minerality. I would however note, it is lacking the richness and concentration that one would typically expect from this GC. Still, very good wine that is probably at or nearing its peak. Drink now and over the next 5-8 years. 17.5

Popped and poured. This is singing. Lovely classic nose of white flowers and orchard fruits. The palate is very pure and youthful with still a lot of lift and energy. Well integrated with flavors of pear, lemon and crushed rocks. This can surely age quite a bit further if you want to risk it. I have seen some premox in the case of this I have been working through but not much yet.

Having checked in on most of my 07 white Burgundies, with a fair number of premox bottle, I decided to open a bottle of Bonneau du Martray C-C, even though looking at the notes here, they do not seem to have major premox issue anymore in 07. A really young pale yellow In the glass, this needs about 20 min of air to find its balance. Precisely delineated white fruit with citrus notes, good weight, a pleasure to drink now but will certainly last for another 15 years. If all aged white Burgundy was like this... great wine

3rd of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, putting on a little weight since Feb 19 bottle hence upgrade, but still a bit too lean and mean, needs a bit of 05 body to compensate, but no denying attractions of underlying flavour profile, probably just needs a little more time. Luftet i 4 timer og drukket over 3 timer.

Dinner with Jean Luc from Comte Georges de Vogue and his wife. Nose is floral with citrus/lemons flowers and warm stone dust with hints of sea spray. Palate is clean and fresh, with ripe sweet lemons and minerals. A tremendous long and fresh yet complex finish. This has developed and in the right direction since I had it 5 years ago, but will keep develop further and only gain from a few more years. (94 - 95+)

Very tight upon opening, nose is clean, precise but not ample. Complexity appeared after a few hours opening. Great lift and poise in the palate which is somewhat constrained but the matter is there, tightly coiled. Still driven by acidity, thus should develop into something special in a few years. Should have been decanted for a few hours. Wait...

Nose of caramel and acacia. long finish. The acidity was not obvious in this bottle. Fully integrated yet has closed up and was really quite boring, although easy to drink. The 96 took 15 years to open up properly so I'll keep my last bottle until 2022.

The best bottle I have had of this. So youthful. This has a terrific and focused nose of lemon rind, saline and cut grass. The palate is structured and focused with fine backbone of acidity supporting it. Flavors of orchard fruit and crushed rocks predominate in a palate which emphasises the minerally character of the wine. Long finish that will grow in complexity. This will continue to age a long time.

Lieu-dit Cur Blind White Dinner (S.K.Y.): Double blind 07/08 Martray/Bouchard C-C. My favorite of the four. Huge intense and broad aromatics with ripe apple, herb and florals. Palate is smooth and rich with excellent density. Well-balanced with zippy acidity and lift.
Needs a short decant to open up but then amazing. On the nose roasted nuts and butter mingle with honeysuckle, lemon, pear, apricot and a whiff of very light smoke. Very soft and smooth on the palate for the first few seconds before the intense lemon core and laser like acidity comes through. A powerhouse but with incredible focus and balance. Finishes very long and fresh with lemon and minerals. Great wine! In a good spot now but no hurry.

Ljus, nästan transparent i färgen.
Lite Chablis lik. 92p

Full straw color; very clean and stony; citrus pith and gravel; viscous texture with loads of dry extract and acid, almost sternly austere. Others liked it more than I. These folks and Henri Boillot epitomize this style but is not what I find most pleasurable in white burgundy.

Very good and at the beginning of its maturity curve. Floral, crystalline subtle nose. The palate is a bit more fleshy reflecting the vintage but delicious with flavors of pear, kiwi, crushed rocks, and seashell. The wine is well balanced but lacks a little precision. This wine delivered exactly as I hope it would.

1st of 12, decanted an hour, perfect cork and level - pale straw, bright and young; honeysuckle, apple, pronounced lemon, more chalk than steel; medium, long, decent persistence, usual lack of material of 07s (where did the notion come from that this is a particularly good vintage?) leading to lack of balance with over-emphasis on acidity....it may of course looking at other notes be that my bottle, coming from a cold cellar, is simply not ready and that it will put on enough weight to bring the flavours into equilibrium. Here's hoping! F (17.5) on basis of flavour profile.

(To celebrate my bonus). Upon opening, the colour is extremely young looking - rather pale straw yellow. Surprisingly young looking; I’ve seen 2015s that seemed more evolved. On the nose, it is quite special. It smells of Golden apples, petroleum jelly (like a Riesling, oddly enough), quince, Cointreau liqueur and a quite present mineral/chalk note. On the palate, the attack is frank, powerful without being heavy and rather sinewy, which is a term I don’t often use for a white wine. Flavours or lemon, green apples, oyster shells, pebbles and chalk. This is followed by a very light mint seam and a touch of oak. There is a very good and persistent acidity with a slight mineral-apple bitterness. With a bit more air, very light aromas of buttered brioche appear as well as smoke, on what is a very impressive length of a perfectly dry wine that ends with a saltiness. It is beautiful, very beautiful in an ethereal style. Is it worth its price though (120$)? There is the question. I can no longer find it as singles, so I would have to buy a case of 6… In any case, quite different from the 2009 that I tasted at the Voile in Annecy which was more closed and much less complex and expressive. I still prefer the style from the Montrachet area though. I'd give it between a 92 and a 93.
(To celebrate my bonus).

No hints of age in the colour, bright straw colour. Somewhat closed nose, dominated by lime, banana (!), as well as oil and minerals. Medium bodied, very marked by oak (banana, vanilla and oak). High acidity. Clearly from a lesser vintage, but still impressing. Very long aftertaste. A great wine, but too much marked by the oak.

Super aromatic, but elegant and classy. Great aromatics of tonic notes, stony minerality, white flowers, spearmint, some honey, a touch of butter, citrus, almost saline. It has medium-full body, oily viscosity but light on its feet, high acidity providing superb freshness and tension. Excellent length with plenty of minerality. A superbly aged Corton-Charlemagne that is super fascinating to taste now.

Burgundy and Rhone: Bottle 2 - Blind initially. Lemon, musk, white florals and mineral aromas. The acid is settling and the wine feels really nicely composed. Has both power and delicacy. A remarkably slight nose. Rich palate - so much richer and fuller than the colour and nose would suggest. There's a nice spice towards the finish. With time and aeration the concentration fades a little, and a creamier feel takes over in the mouth, and then the acidity builds, giving it a more grassy, green fruit/veg feel. Possibly lacking structure, particularly to give it the longevity of the older vintages. Can't really make my mind up about this one. It's certainly not impressing like its older siblings.

2007 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): I absolutely loved this wine when I tried it shortly after its commercial release way back in 2010. I am not sure it has quite lived up to the tremendous potential that I thought it had back then, but it is still a very solid wine. The nose was lovely, if still rather reserved, with classic Bonneau du Martray chalkiness, and then cream and white chocolate notes drifting alongside white fruit, some ripe melon aromas, and a nice dash of spice. There was still a touch of oak in there, but nothing too obvious. In the mouth, the wine was surprising rich, almost sweet, for a 2007 white Burgundy, with ripe apples, melons and even a white peach timbre to its well-fruited palate. On the back-end, little complex nuances of cream and white chocolate then unfolded into a long, powerful but somehow always gentle finish. A lovely wine. Surprisingly lush for the vintage, with a nice, voluptuous depth to it, but this was all still tempered by lovely cut and thrust of 2007, with a fresh liveliness that suggests this wine will age effortlessly for decades. This somehow lacked some of the razor-sharp focus that I noted from the previous bottle, but it is still a really nice drop.

Nydelig sexy nese med lyse frukter, knust stein, litt søtt bakverk og florale toner. Meget elegant. Trengte noen timer i karaffel for å åpne seg. Høy intensitet i anslaget, men leken og lett i steget. Nydelig balanse! Fokusert og lang finish. Meget fin energi i ettersmaken her. Rådeilig, elegant og lineær vin.

Flickinger Customer Appreciation Tasting (Casino Club - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Perplexing bottle. Flickinger Tasting at The Casino (Chicago, IL): I love the Bonneau de Martray Corton Charlemagnes. I've heard plenty of anecdotes about the pox striking these wines particularly hard, so I've never bought any. But it's always a treat to taste a good example of one. This is no exception. There's a slight matchstick nose, and otherwise, not much else at the moment. The palate is ripe, well-balanced, powerful, and oaky. But the oak never juts out -- it's held back by the dense extract. I can't help but wonder though if the reason I didn't like it more was because this was too big...

Nicely clean, bordering on austere, not a huge wine but with good, classy quality. While presentBle now, ideally this have more time in the cellar to really show its true potential.

Clear color and a very tight nose (giving only faint whiffs of white flowers, sliced lemons, and marzipan), but on the palate, this wine really shines. Laser-like precision and cut, and a tremendous finish that feels like citrus-laced chalk getting blasted into your palate. A wine that marries electric energy with mineral richness like no other wine I've ever had. Wonderful now, with great potential for the future.

A regal wine that whispers its quality - no shouty struck match aromas or loud oak here - a serene and reserved nose of tropical fruit mixed with crushed rocks. Light as a feather on the palate, with a clean, broad finish.

Starts off with quite an overt nose of tropical fruits. It tightens up in the glass. It is rich and voluminous with the vineyard's steely spine. It is drinking beautifully today but there's still plenty left in the tank.

Accessed with Coravin. Medium-light citrine color, starting to take on a faintly amber hue. Full nose of ripe honeydew melon and a faint whiff of latex. The palate starts broad, with a generously rich mouthfeel. Accents of butterscotch and a nearly smoky stoniness emerge. This wine somehow regains its focus midway across the palate, zipping down the back of the tongue in a final acidic sprint. Plenty enjoyable now but still coming together, I am grateful to have enough bottles to enjoy through the middle of the next decade.

Light yellow. Closed just after opening. Aerated 1.5 t in decanter. Opens more in the glass with floral scents, citrus fruits, lemon zest, red apples, herbs, nuts and flint. Sublime fruit. Remarkably fresh and seductive in the mouth with red apples and citrus fruits. Creamy with a precise acidity that bears the fruit to an incredible length. Nicely integrated oak, hazelnuts, butter and scents of honey. Complex and concentrated without being to heavy. Balanced and an impressive depth. This is purely and simply delicious. An incredibly elegant and great wine. 50 + 5 + 13 + 17 + 9 (94 p)

From Wine Watch Vertical of Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru (2000, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012). The 2007 was the wine of the night for the overall group and myself. The wines were decanted earlier, pre-poured in glasses beside each other, and were tasted over a 2 hour period. The dominant signature feature shared by these white Burgundies was a luscious and caressing texture. What made the 2007 stand out was its superb drinkability, chiefly from a more delicious fruit and bright citric acidity. Judging by how muted the nose of the just poured wines were and how much more open and flavorful they became as the evening wore on, the wines would have been better decanted a day before. No wine had reached its peak and even the youngest two were surprisingly enjoyable.

Bonneau du Martray Visit and Tasting (Pernand-Vergelesses): Tasting at the domaine. Floral with very good spice and plenty of apple with some squeezed lemon wedges. Tense and energetic. While this seems were acidic vs other vintages, Jean-Charles says that is the chalk character of the terroir coming through. Also consistent with the many other times I have tasted this wine.

Burgundy Lunch With New Friends (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): From magnum. Ripe with lots of power, but also the textures to maintain excellent balance. Large, long and persistent start-to-finish. Good now, getting better. An exceptional wine for its price.

Citrus fruit, white flowers, quince and herbal notes on the nose - not overly expressive or intense, even quite restrained. On the palate nice depth, intense acidity, pure fruit, lots of minerality but not really very well balanced. Very long finish. This really needs more time but should be wonderful in a couple of years. 91-93+(+?)

Lovely dinner and vertical tasting at Haut Bailly (Château Haut Bailly): Gorgeous white Burgundy: Fresh, wet stone, citrus, red apple, sumptuous yet vivacious palate, fine acidity and ripeness. Coming from magnum gave it extra freshness. Nearly the top wine of the dinner :-). OK, not as good - not nearly as good - as the 2010, which I had tasted at the estate a couple of years before (along with the 09, 08, 07, 06) but over dinner this was singing! No sign of premox.

Popped and poured. Apple, lemon and lemon peel aromas and flavors. Lean and somewhat tart to start, with more flesh and weight coming through over the course of a couple of hours in glass. Lots of power, great length.
Corton Masterclass with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Light yellow, touch of greenish tint. Light on the nose, yet revealed nice aromatics on the way. Mineral, flinty in a way. On the palate it packs a decent punch, with good ripe fruit, and has a lot of presence. Solid wine and albeit young it is a joy to be had now. Good life ahead. 92

Flott opplevelse!

Tasted blind: The nose is filled with crushed vitamins and tropical fruit. On the palate the fruit is lacking a bit, but it has the classic BDM silkiness as the acidity picks up real nice.

Less open and developed than the 2004 standing next to this. Nose shows clean and fresh, with flowery soap perfume, white Corton Charlemagne typical flowers, lime and citrus peel, lemons, stones and minerals, deep and somewhat semi developed. On the palate this is a little closed and tight, showing spicy fruit, lemons, yellow grape fruit, green apples, bright acidity and good length. This will become even finer with more bottle age, as it needs time. Points given for tonight’s performance. (92 – 94)

Rather shy on the nose right now, but much more expressive on the palate with layers of fresh citrus, pear, and riper stone fruit flavours framed by faint vanilla butter and oaky elements, and sweeter floral notes that develop with time. Beneath is a vivid stony mineral base and a bright acid spine that keeps it very focused and precise, and it finishes with good length.

Latricières-Chambertin Dinner (Paris Club - Chicago IL): Open approx 45 minutes before tasted. Served double blind to the group alongside the 2008. I didn't know which wine was in each glass. I understand why the group thought this might have been from Chablis, which lots of lemon, lemon peel and green apple, lots of salinity, plus its vibrant, lean energy start-to-finish. I correctly identified this as the 2007.

Served at a Society of Bacchus dinner with an amazingly good and interesting scallop course. I did not take notes: From memory: this wine was one of the highlights of the evening. Gold color. Luscious nose of flowers, tropical fruit, peach, pear, and vanilla. Silky, full palate of creamy Chard fruit that just lingered on forever. Focused acidity. Subtle oak. Superb white Burg.

Big and rich wine with a ton of acidity. The oak is light but noticeable. Lots of minerality. I got hints of something like fruity candy or bubble gum on the nose, but not in a bad way. A previous taster noted cotton candy - perhaps that's a more accurate description.

Light colour…medium lemon green Nose shows mint, lemongrass, lemon, it is quite tight….with time…shows cotton candy, Palate is quite structured….it just needs time to unfurl. There is nice weight and the oak is very pretty. Lemon, lime, minerals, subtle vanilla notes from its time in oak. Finish is really quite long and shows good complexity….I think this will turn out to be a very good wine..but it is so young…it needs 10+ years.

A well constructed wine of balance, but difficult to score today. Nose evolved throughout the evening from loads of citrus and a well measured hit of oak, to a slightly more minty candy cane note. Palate is what you would expect with fairly linear acid. If you have this I would not advise opening any time soon, despite premox risk.

Day Five in Burgundy: Bonneau du Martray, Clos de Tart, Faiveley, Niellon (Cote d'Or): Tasting at domaine. Floral and perfumed start with great spice. More firm, slightly leaner fruit vs the 2008, even seemingly slightly backward and brooding. Also open 2 days. I always enjoy tasting these 2 vintages together and think that will be a great exercise for the next decade or two.

Dinner at Elements with Gary, Tom and Jay (Princeton, NJ): This was pre-game at the house to Elements dinner with Gary, Tom, Jay. Double-Decanted for about 30 minutes. may have benefited from a longer decant, but guests arrived and were ready to drink...
Light, golden straw color. Citrus, lemon, mineral, toasted almonds/nuts, vanilla oak. Really spectacular wine, seems very young right now, should keep improving. Will hold remaining bottles - 2+ years

Really light lemon yellow, lemony and fresh with some seashell/mineral notes. Very fresh, more citrus and just a hint of vanilla, fresh nuts and stone. This is simply too young to drink, although still very very enjoyable it hasn't reached any real degree of secondary aroma/flavour. So imo not worth opening yet, just drink an older vintage or lesser 07... Will give the remaining bottles at least 2 yrs before i try again, that's the real pleasure in cellaring en primeur purchases...

Light lemon colour. Nose is fresh and vibrant with elegant nuttiness and oakiness, citrus fruit, some green herbaceouss notes and white florals. Palate is medium bodied with crisp acidity, lean in a good sense with flavors like the aromas on the nose with an additional honey, honeysuckle sweetness and subtle buttery note on the finish. At a nice stage to drink but with lots of life ahead of it.

Drunk in a restaurant accompanying a fine dinner. My impressions were jotted down on paper the morning after- not a formal tasting note. In order to appreciate the nose fully I brought the glass outside the dining room in the open air, and then it really shone. A complex, elegant, fine nose, with fruit, yeast and floral notes all perfectly knit together. The palate was truly remarkable, with a very lively entry, full of fresh white fruit. The initial burst slowly evolves to lower levels of intensity and gains in complexity while remaining elegant and light on its feet all the way through. Long finish, at the end of which one gets a clear perception of the high level of acidity - which finally explains how that intensity of flavour and all that lightness could come together. For me this sets a new standard for what "balance" means in wine.

Premox issues? Not here. But out of concern for the possibility (Bonneau du Martray has one of the highest instances of pre-ox), I pulled this monster instead of letting it settle in for years of slumber. Gorgeous in the glass like sunlight on a brilliant June morning. The bouquet fills the room with apple, apple pie, lemon curd, baking spices, cream, sweet butter and . . . hazelnut. The silken mouthfeel requires another moment of reflection. Enjoying it slows the pace of the meal and draws out the evening. The hazelnut finish goes on forever. Just now, the wine is big, powerful and masculine . . . and way too young. It’s a very big wine - but decadently delicious. From magnum. Decanted for 30 minutes plus. 13.6% alc. With cioppino and asparagus for BBH’s visit as we make the last sorting of pictures and finalize cleaning out our mother’s house - a bittersweet time. Highly Recommended.

working with wine 2012 seminar 1 - chardonnay (Pyrmont): Lemon, bright with medium minus intensity. On the nose there are notes of butter, cream, cinnamon spice, stone fruit over green apple and lemon notes, minerality, a touch of struck match and, odd those this sounds, a certain roundness. In the mouth the wine has medium plus acid, citric tan - more lemon than apple, spice, minerals, low phenolic grip., long finish that carries the tartness and introduces slight oak.

Alcohol :: 13.5% Opened for 45mins and decanted for another 30mins. Bright light golden. The 2007 Martray CC is a stunner, perhaps not as lush and ripe as the 2006 but the focus and precision here is even more impressive. It has expressive bouquet of sweet lemon and pear in the core with a mélange of fresh herbs, white flower, mineral and a light touch of creamy butter. Not high tone but deep and refreshing. The palate is full of charm too. Highly focus with fine depth and grip. Equally rich but colder tone than the 2006: light creamy butter, sweet lemon supported by the underlying tension and liquid like mineral, perfectly balance with excellent purity and razor sharp precision. The oak has almost completely buffer the the concentration of the wine! It continues to drive from the intense mid palate to the seriously long, mouth filling finished with persistent mineral aftertaste. Adorable! This wine will only get better in the bottle. 93-95

Based on some of the reviews and my experience with young Corton-Charlemagnes, I elected to double decant. It was quite limited in scope before decant but blossomed nicely after and it did not flag after as many as 6 hours. My nose was out of commision and the stemware limited in size so not much to say on aromatics but despite these handicaps this wine delivered. It was for me a super concentrated wine with a linear lemon and chalk feel but yet is filled the mouth and had enough acidity to balance the bright fruit that the palate did not fatigue. definitely int the 93-95 range qualitywise and has legs to last a while

A nice, restrained and clean nose. Lovely weight on the palate - mineral notes and quite dense, borders on viscous. Despite that, there is a touch of dilution on the finish, but not a big deal - I love the austerity here, electric warm earth finish. "Column" says Jean-Charles

Domaine Tasting at Bonneau du Martray (Burgundy, France): From bottle at the Domaine. Like the 2008 served before, the aromatics are more mineral driven with lemon and lime zest and traces of white floral. Crushed rocks. Palate is also very mineral driven, though the fruit has become a bit more pronounced since the last time I had it. A very gripping and focused wine and like the 2008, tons of acidity. Very long finish. These two vintages will be quite a lot of fun to compare years down the road.

Very light yellow. Wispy tropical fruit and citrus. Fairly light but excellent purity, a touch of wood, excellent acidity and chalky finish. Not a powerful or concentrated Grand Cru by a long shot, but finesseful and very refined. Of course, it should never have been broached at this tender age in the first place.

A good representation of white burgundy, although I had higher expectations for the wine. The 2006 was incredibly complex and had a flavor profile running from apples to bananas (yes, I did say bananas!). The 2007 was far more closed, and perhaps it will open up over time. That said, good bright citrus notes with nice minerality. One person drinking the wine said it tasted of the barrel, although I didn't feel the same way. 3 more bottles left, and I am hoping that I am more impressed with the other 3.

Tasting at NK's (His House): This is painfully young from the calm and brooding intensity. I get razor-like minerality and bright acidity which leads to the incredibly intense finish. Tasting at NK Yong's (Swettenham Road, Singapore): Absolutely first-class juice. As good a young BdM Corton-Charlie as I have ever had. Lovely nose for a start. Beeswax, honey, white chocolate, a little toast, some nuts and white fruit, all showing lovely depth and complexity, Surprisingly open I thought. The palate was rather tighter, but with no less quality. It was positively palate staining in its concentrated intensity - and this from a 2007 as well! I got rich layers of yellow fruit and serious mineral just flowing through the mouth from attack into the super-long finish that showed accents of peach and apricot as it faded away into the distance. Still tight, still a bit indistinct, but boy, this is certainly solid stuff. Fresh acid was laced through the whole wine as well, keeping it razor-sharp and super focused. An excellent, excellent wine. I would love to try this in 5 years' time.

Tasted blind first impression of the nose was awful. Like Grandma just opened the cupboard and let all the mothballs out. However in a blind tasting some wines can appear very contrasting when next to another. As I became more accustomed to the wine and it in turn became more accustomed to the air magic began to happen. I only had a brief look at this as it was a tasting only but it was very impressive. Really took on weight the longer it sat there and had great depth/dimension and class. Sizzled the tastebuds long after the wine disappeared.

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant Burgundy Tasting (Ferry Plaza, San Francisco): Probably the white wine of the night for me, amazing balance, purity and detail. Lemon, hints of honey, white flowers, slight nuttiness, stone, minerals, all in a wrapper of perfect acidity. Reserved, restrained and cool on the nose with notes of wet stones, Arum lilies, green apple and spice. It is strict, linear and razor sharp in the mouth, in fact if there weren’t a sphere of glycerol around its rigid spine I’m quite certain a portion of my tongue could have been lanced right off. Some cinnamon oak weaves effortlessly through the pure white peach and lemon flavours without intruding and there’s a hint of aniseed. Quite simply the best young BdM CC for mine since the 2000.

A slight decant. As with the previous bottle I had, tons of citrus and mineral on both the nose and palate. Great stucture to this wine and the acidity gives a laserlike focus. Not much evidence of wood at this stage in its life. Quite nice.

Decanted and drank over the course of 3 hours. Pale yellow color with a white rim. Tons of wet stone on the nose with lime and a tiny bit of white flowers. At first the palate was pretty lean, just mineral and firm citrus notes. As it opened, the palate became slightly more full with notes of juicy lime all the while still staying very mineral driven. Fantastic length with outstanding minerality.

If all aged white Burgundy was like this... great wine

Very tight upon opening, nose is clean, precise but not ample. Complexity appeared after a few hours opening. Great lift and poise in the palate which is somewhat constrained but the matter is there, tightly coiled. Still driven by acidity, thus should develop into something special in a few years.

With Tom and Bryan. Tom bought this one after the Acker tasting to take to dinner at the Milling Room. PnP, slightly chilled, drank over about 45 minutes...
Pale gold color. Nose showing lemon, orchard fruits, oyster shell, crushed stone. Palate showing apples, pear, lime, pineapple. Picking up some saline/salt air through the mid palate. Long and nuanced finish.
This is in a great spot right now, elegant and expressive. All the characteristics I like about white burgundy...

This is in a great spot at the moment. Still feel fresh but huge acid backbone is now integrated with nuances of richness and this is singing. Lemon and lime well are lifted with nice white flowers notes and are blended well by fresh Madagascar vanilla bean, light maple syrup and grilled buttery bread. This is drinking well but no rush, will hold for 3-5 years easily.

Alway afraid when opening white burgundy this age, but this is in pristine condition. Carafed one hour, intense aromas of ripe citrus, minerals (rubber?), white peach and some Vanilla. full bodied, great concentration, a really intense wine, long aftertaste dominated by citrus and minerals. Almost tanninc on the finish. This is a no less than great wine from a middle of the road vintage. Perfect With poached turbot.

Light colour…medium lemon green
Nose shows mint, lemongrass, lemon, it is quite tight….with time…shows cotton candy,
Palate is quite structured….it just needs time to unfurl.

I always enjoy tasting these 2 vintages together and think that will be a great exercise for the next decade or two.

The delicate floral nose accentuated the first sip perfectly. Perfectly balanced, great acidity, with years of beauty to come. Steely, intense minerality, dry, with a long finish.

Opened for 45mins and decanted for another 30mins.

A good representation of white burgundy, although I had higher expectations for the wine. The 2006 was incredibly complex and had a flavor profile running from apples to bananas (yes, I did say bananas!). The 2007 was far more closed, and perhaps it will open up over time. That said, good bright citrus notes with nice minerality. One person drinking the wine said it tasted of the barrel, although I didn't feel the same way. 3 more bottles left, and I am hoping that I am more impressed with the other 3.
