Sunday, February 14, 2010 - Excellent wine. Black fruits, sour cherry, bay leaf, forrest floor and a terrific, savory unami quality. The tannins have softened, but the acidity is still lively and imparts great freshness and lift, especially at the savory finish which shows blood orange acidity. The fruit is still direct and pure at eleven years, but surrounded by lovely nuances and the savory finish. Much preferred to the '99 Fontalloro the previous night, because this Rancia is not effected by new wood, which defined the Fontalloro. Yum.
