90 Points

Tuesday, August 19, 2014 - Ruby-auburn color. Initially tight, but it opens up to show some tart cranberries and black cherries, but the fruit is beaten out by lots of green olive, charcoal pit, anise, seaweed and braised meat, a hint of alcohol. (14.5%). Fresh, tingly acid and some dusty tannins for structure. Black and red cherries, tart and crunchy, and the fruit is laced with pickle, green olive, smoked meat and beef drippings. A hint of cola and cedar as well. Fully mature and smoothed out, with lots of herbal and meaty complexity. Not the deepest or most profound 2001 CdP, but I like the silky mouthfeel and the fresh acid keeps me coming back. Probably not worth aging much longer, but I enjoyed this quite a bit, as did the friend I shared it with.
