74 Points

Thursday, February 9, 2012 - decanted and aerated, served at about 70 degrees.
I knew this wine was just past peak, so I did not expect much. I had one glass with dinner about 25 minutes after I decanted it. That first glass was less than I expected, but drinkable. Maybe closer to a rating of 70. As I often do, I left the wine overnight in the sealed decanter and hoped for the best. The next night the wine was much better, closer to a 76. The color was a deep garnet / purple. The nose was predominantly blackberries with a little bit of potting soil (earthy, but not the moist soil smell of many 'earthy' wines). It had a medium-light to medium body with good legs that formed quickly. Not complex in taste. It reminded me of the standard table wine our local Italian cucina pours.
