Sunday, May 19, 2019 - Danny and Keana (The Lyon Hall): 2 hour decant and I like this more than 5 years ago! I did not realize until posting, that the last one I opened was also with a med student (7/14!). Tasting this with the '08 Montrose was a real nice demo of the differFRANCEs between Napa and Bordeaux. Nice mix of red and black fruit with mint, oak and earth notes. Great structure. MAYBE better on day 2! Drink 2020-2030!

5/24/2019 5:29:00 AM - Thanks for the note...I’ve been drinking Montelena Estate Cabs for 3 decades...had most every vintage including the (non-estate) 1974, 1978 onward. Your comment at the end really tells the story (definitely better the next day)...this will need a long decant and plenty of time in the cellar. Next time try 5-8 hours in a decanter before drinking and I would say drinking window is 2020-2038+. Based on another CT note on the 2007, I tried one of mine (‘07) last weekend and found it needs the time in bottle and without a decant tastes very closed and backward (as expected) but many people don’t realize that is normal for this wine. Cheers!
