Saturday, December 15, 1990 - With Kathy and Miranda at home at dinner (pasta carbonara). Deep, relatively dark ruby color. Good legs. Has a complex bouquet of smoked meat, plenty of ripe fruit, with a hint of tomato. Showing extremely well in the mouth, the flavors literally unfold in the mouth. Tannins are resolved leaving loads of rich, sweet fruit with an exotic smoky quality, rich, chewy texture, and a tremendous smoked meat finish that only appears a full 3 to 5 seconds after the wine is swallowed, and then lasts and lasts. I do not know if I have ever tasted a better Rhone, including the '67 Les Cedres; it merits nearly perfect marks. Incredibly rich, full, and powerful, yet with the tannins resolved, this is fabulous. A magnificent bottle of wine. 5–13–20–9: 97/100.
