Fully mature - and actually a very rich wine with notes of saddleleather, sweet fruit, tobacco, sweet spice. In no way on a downhill track, but probably at its peak. With T at Søllerød Kro.

With Kathy and Miranda at home at dinner (pasta carbonara). Deep, relatively dark ruby color. Good legs. Has a complex bouquet of smoked meat, plenty of ripe fruit, with a hint of tomato. Showing extremely well in the mouth, the flavors literally unfold in the mouth. Tannins are resolved leaving loads of rich, sweet fruit with an exotic smoky quality, rich, chewy texture, and a tremendous smoked meat finish that only appears a full 3 to 5 seconds after the wine is swallowed, and then lasts and lasts. I do not know if I have ever tasted a better Rhone, including the '67 Les Cedres; it merits nearly perfect marks. Incredibly rich, full, and powerful, yet with the tannins resolved, this is fabulous. A magnificent bottle of wine. 5–13–20–9: 97/100.

With Michael Lehmann at Singer & Foy survey of 1978 Rhones at Zola's. Medium dark ruby. The nose has that certain something. Mint? Chocolate? Kaopectate? In the mouth, rich, fruity, but different. Very dry, somewhat bitter finish. A bit weird. Too dry on the finish. Group rating: 10th out of 11 wines; my rating: eighth place. 5–11–13–5: 84/100.

At home. Very deep garnet color -- no trace of age. Nose very interesting, complex. Bacony fruit predominates. Fine in the mouth. Perfect balance. Incredibly rich, intense flavors. A great wine. Finish goes on forever. 5–10–17–8: 90/100.

At Singer & Foy with Michael Lehmann and Brett Raven. Very great. Fabulous bacon fat aroma. Wonderful melange of gamy, saddle leather flavors. Excellent.
