Friday, May 18, 2018 - A true sometimes a bit forgotten gem, the 2007 La Pèira is certainly one of those Grand Vins produced in France. The The eleven years in bottle has increased integration and balance, but there is still youthful fruit and rather vivid tannins. It shows lovely primary fruit and the cellar potential is most likely 10-15+ years. Despite eleven years of age, the wine is still full-bodied and powerful, yet elegant and seamlessly integrated. The velvelty and silky touch has grown stronger and is now the major impression. Comparing to SQN, which highly relevant, the power is there, but with a lovely addition of heather, herbal tones and garrigue. The nose exhibits dark mature fruit, a bit of saddle leather and beautiful tones of violet and flowers. The palate is full throttle but also integrated - all components speak with one voice. Totally brilliant tonight!
