Wednesday, October 5, 2011 - Good QPR at around $15. At that price I would say this is an interesting wine. This is not the predictable candied Aussie style Syrah, but neither is it a super refined Cali syrah. I would argue this is somewhere in the middle. Nose more muted than the over-the-top fruit bomb, but still not so subtle that you can't tell what you're drinking. I did not expect to like this, but the flavor profile showed some chocolate and plum to offset the brighter fruit, giving it a unique (to me at least) flavor profile that was refreshing. That said, it was still fairly one dimensional, showing nothing new on the mid-to-back palette, hence the at-$15-this-is-a-good-QPR-argument. However, if I had to pick a wine to drink tonight, I would spend a couple of bucks more and opt for Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz, always well made and has never let me down.
