Wednesday, August 15, 2012 - Medium ruby color, medium intensity on the nose with notes of tobacco leaf, black fruit and some herbaceousness (including the characteristic green pepper note, which I don't mind at all). Some oak on the palate though its becoming reasonably well integrated, medium acidity, medium body and medium plus alcohol. All of which means its open for business, doesn't have the power of more fruit forward vintages but is entirely ready to go and while it needs a little time in a decanter, it shouldn't disappoint. My better half, the Sangiovese Queen, loved it, which gives some sense of where it fits on the acid/green versus big fruit scale. As a pairing, a nice juicy steak does the job brilliantly.
