Saturday, February 3, 2024 - Super low expectations based on the look of the bottle but once again the universe shows us why we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. This juice is killer. Rollin’ right out of the gate, no decant needed. Nose is a bit shy but it’s got sweet and fresh red berries, brambles, forest floor, savory mushroom and a hint of soy sauce, worn fine leather. Very compelling with really nice complexity. Palate is still juicy (!) with strawberry, raspberry, grape leaf, gravel, a little crushed graphite, tons of acidity—way more than I would expect from Zinfandel—and a medium, almost light body. Tannins totally gone. Are we sure this is Zinfandel? Either way I love it. Shouldn’t expect anything less from something born in 1985 I guess ; )
