90 Points

Thursday, November 18, 2021 - Final bottle of an EP case. Overall value from the case was off the charts and this was a fine final bottle. Good plum color with apparent bricking, though not excessively for the age. Opens quickly with a predominant aromatic mixture dominated by plum with supporting notes of clove, briar, ganache, cassis, and a whiff of an old sweater locked away for a year. On the palate this provides a modest lift of acidity on the attack before stepping aside to let the plum, cassis, and cedar glide through the mid palate. The finish leaves a shallow but lengthy thread of chalky iron as it coasts along. Resolved tannins allow the bone structure of the fruit to shine through. Solid, and looking forward to my 2016 and 2019.

Day 2 - Half the bottle stored overnight. Presenting more vigor today from the acidity with the cassis showing dominance, backed up with smoke and an espresso centric finish. A very different wine from day 1. Day 2 - 90.
