Sunday, December 25, 2011 - This made Christmas a wee bit more special. Monster cab, but with finesse. In the glass, the wine displays very high extract with intense purple color and long flowing red legs with every swirl. At this age the nose is still reticent but looks very promising with notes of cedar, tobacco, creme de cassis, and licorice. The wine is very focused as well - delivery good grip on the mid palate with every taste. The excess petit verdot (abt 7-8%) in the blend also provides complex layers of depth to the wine - Accessing the fruit at the core of every taste is a treat. The finish is very exciting and heightens into a crescendo which overloads the palate with intense cassis and licorice fruit which lingers for minutes. Still a baby, but would be interesting to taste this wine 20 years from now. Would recommend 2-3 hrs of decanting as other fellow community tasters have stated before drinking. This is indeed, a knockout!
