93 Points

Sunday, December 20, 2020 - This was much better than the last bottle we opened 3+ years ago, which was super closed. As other tasters have reported, this is now in notably better shape and revealing much more of the CdP experience. The nose initially showcases bright strawberry fruit complicated by lavender, violets, and a touch of roasted game. A bit astringent in the mouth at first, which directed us to decanting. It promptly went into a shell only to re-emerge after 2-3 hours, this time revealing a more evolved and complex and darker nose of blueberry, plum, and anise melded with the same lavender and violet notes. At this point the wine settled down in the mouth, yielding a much more suave and silky textured package carrying an assortment of red and dark fruits, licorice, chocolate, and herbs. Medium-bodied, but fairly rich and concentrated, with a long satisfying finish. A bit of heat was noticeable and stubbornly persistent throughout the evening, which prevented a higher score.
