Great wine which surprised me with how young it’s still drinking. My impression is 90’s ornellaia is mostly in a drinking range if still drinking young, but this was prob almost too young (which is surprising for the second wine). Oak integrated. Darker fruits. The secondary is maybe poking a bit but it’s still a bit more primary in style. Nice to see how well this is doing.

This wine has matured into an amazingly balanced and nuanced example of what a Super Tuscan is suppose to be. I cannot imagine how it could have been any better- it wowed the guests.

Purchased and cellared since release. Dark red, almost black at year 12. Nose on first pour: Barnyard reminiscent of Monbousquet (Bordeaux) in many vintages, which I love. This blows off in a few minutes of twirling. Then mature cassis, leather, cedar, and hints of paint thinner (for a few minutes). Soft in the mouth, balanced fruit/acid, medium long finish. Great with a prime rib.

3 hr decant, soft and smooth -a clean Bordeaux blend interpretation which did not indicate it's origins. Soft merlot characteristics and there may even be a touch of cab franc in here. The nose is very pleasant and the wine well made but there is no excitement here. The finish is short and I would suspect that this has peaked or may have been better several years ago. A quick tasting of the 2004, 3 days ago have left me much more impressed.

20th Anniversary for Ornellaia (Crowne Plaza Hotel, Rome): 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot Ruby core, garnet rim. Nose: fairly closed to start; opened up over 2+ hours with only moderate intensity. Sweet fruit, carob, green herbs and slight stalkiness. Highish alcohol and acidity, medium level of smooth tannins. Good length, moderate complexity.

Tenuta dell' Ornellaia (The Wine Summit at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise): Very dark, pink rim; aromas subdued - brought out some currant fruit with coaxing; harsh entry; a lot of tannins which ride over the modest berry fruit; longer finish but the tannins outlast everything else.
