More open than a year ago. Ripe dark fruit, pretty evolved with leather, some tar, lavender and tobacco. Silky mouthfeel combined with fresh acids. Medium long finish. A very nice traditional brunello, easy to like and hugely drinkable.

Last bottle of the 2005 Quercecchio BdM is also the best. We always think about trad rioja when we drink this wine, there's a hint of dill in the oldfashioned barrel aroma profile. What makes this bottle outstanding is 1) the mouthfeel, so silky smooth and user-friendly 2) elegant sangio fruit that shows no signs of drying out, and shines together with the ripe acidity. 3) just enough maturity. We look forward to try the 2006 in the next week.

Initially knit, but soon develops a nice nose of dark fruit with some lighter notes an a hint of oak and vanilla. Some stone dust and herbs. Also beginning to show some maturity - leather and tobacco. On the palata surprisingly lithe and fresh considering the olfactory impression. Not clumsy at all. Fresh acids, perhaps a bit rough tannin but overall farly smooth, almost silken in the mouth. Further analysis reveals a slight bitternes with notes of bay leaf and wormwood. Also more dark fruit and vanilla. A fairly nice, traditional BdM. Goes down without protest.

I've been seriously sceptical to most wines coming out of Tuscany from the vintage 2005. But, Quercecchio shows that there are exceptions to the rule. This is in no way mindblowing, but a nice, traditional Brunello with a bunch of cherries crushed in stone, nice herbs, serious acidity and a nice leathery/tobbacoish tannin structure. It was fine day 1, but day 2 it really grew on me. Excellent today, guess it's even better in, say, two-three years.

- Garnet color and aromas of blackberry, mushroom and oak. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of blackberry and mushroom with a medium/full body with a long finish.
