  • Good color, deep red with nice clarity on the rim. Earthy nose, some spice and leather. Dark fruits, slightly ripe but interesting layers of dark cherry and some vanilla add complexity. Some sappy intensity to close, but the finish feels a bit short and slightly austere. Mature, on the edge so it’s time to drink up.

  • Lovely dark cherry and forest berry fruit, spice, florals, subtle earth notes. Midweighted, sappy and graceful with lovely palate presence, conveying the richness of the year with balance. . More of the same on the palate, with the wood integrated and adding bit of spice. This seems to be drinking very well right now with plenty of time in hand. Outstanding.

  • I underestimated this. Truly lovely layered well-made northern Burg. Punching way above its weigh and a crazy-stupid steal at $22/btl. Why didn't I buy more? Clos du Roy should certainly keep pushing for PC status in Marsannay.

  • This is a black-fruited crowd pleaser which has enough underbrush character to keep things interesting. Jammy and full as befits the ripeness of the vintage. The oak gets a bit messy on the finish. Tasty but not the most poised.

  • On it’s own to start. Nose is faintish but seems right. On the palate this is lovely. It needs a few minutes to open up and is maybe a little cold (14C) but this could be mistaken for a very good Gevrey. It is floral, some sous bois and rust but some hint of liquorice as well. Will be interesting to try this with food. So far very happy with this.
Great with beef bourguignon and epoisses. Retained good intensity throughout, which can be difficult with a washed-rind cheese. Lovely as well afterwards (hour or two later).

  • Finally got to one of these after about 6 years. Pretty, cool dark-fruited nose. Masculine flavor profile. Nice black pepper. Ultimately, a bit hollow in the middle. this likely would have been better a few years ago. even so, it is well made and it most clearly speaks of Burgundy (if not Marsannay).

  • Very dark for a Pinot and ripe for a Burgundy, you can really tell it was a hot year. Warm blackcurrant, plum, chocolate, almost Bordeaux-like scents, some lightly pruney notes from the slight aging, nicely integrated oaky nutmeg. Delicious, lightly minerally, although maybe a touch more acidity would work; it's still present, with a great savory tinge of cured meat on the finish, but is beginning to slowly fade. Mine could have seen better storage, but we loved it- a rich, truly delicious and still refreshing red burg. I feel lucky to have found it for around $40. Wouldn't be as happy with it for the going price today, but maybe the quality has risen in more recent vintages!

  • First bottle of a case of 12. Glad I waited as this is delicious now yet still seems quite youthful but with some complexity and savoury character. Perfect storage at the wine society. Colour is darker than I would have expected and there is a richness here but it’s not a fruit bomb. Very nice oak. Well made.

  • 1/2. Good cork. Served at 15C.
Extra-ordinarily youthful appearance - medium purple/ruby core, pale purple rim. Nose shows blackcurrant fruit, touch of earth and smoke but quite youthful still. Medium bodied on the palate, a touch bony and angular with blackcurrant fruit again to the fore, some smoke and earth, fresh acidity and some grainy tannin on the medium length finish. Not sure how this will age given the likely obstinacy of the tannins.

  • this is another bottle purchased today from same wine shop and reminiscent of last bottle. same overripe slightly pruney chocolatey nose, bricking color. acid structure more noticeable than the tannin. good but if these are representative i don't see an upside to waiting. if you have more than one i would check in

  • no real note. fairly simple red fruit and earth. continue to be underwhelmed with these.

  • Quite dark in the glass, and showing no signs of bricking. The nose was relatively muted, and it took hour or so to reveal forest floor, cedar spice and darkish fruits. On the palate this was quite ripe, with dark berry fruits framed by earthy notes. The finish was a bit clipped and overall this seemed to lack a bit of zest for me. Stylistically, this was pretty new world. Finally, Pataille seems to be getting a lot of hype and as a result prices have risen to the point where value is questionable.

  • PNP. cork perfect. color dark garnet. nose has dark cherry and anise framed by earth and iodine. swishing shows mostly acid structure, and a relatively terse moderately tannic finish. sipping gives more pleasure, with toney fruit that seems older than actual age. this seems maybe a tad overripe and is maturing early? good but I prefer the village marsannay to this from this vintage. recent acquisition from LA wine shop so maybe victim of storage?

  • At first, the wine seemed simply rather flatfooted and lacking sufficient acidity. After about a half hour of air, the nose developed an unpleasant funky/rubbery odor. Not drinkable.

  • 3rd bottle that is off. Maybe slightly oxidized but also a funky nose. Maybe corked too. Maybe I got a bad batch, otherwise I would stay away from this bottling as it is on the way doooownnn.

  • Nice enough bottle but slightly advanced. Nice dark cherry with zest.

  • I think it was slighlty corked.

  • Dark ruby color. On the nose some Dark cherry with some earthiness. Medium acidity with tannins still on the forefront. It is big wine but at the same time has the finesse of a Burgundy. I would not call it fruit forward but it is definitely a dense wine. Black Cherry, with some earthiness and just a hint of herbs. Seems shutdown for now. Really curious to see how this develops. B +

  • Purchased off the wine list at Pollen Street Social. Darker ruby. Nose of blackberry, cherry blossom, anise, earth. Big and thick on the palate with nicely-delineated layers of luscious black raspberry and black cherry fruit in an extroverted fashion. Moderate acidity and structured tannins presently submerged beneath all that primary fruit. Medium length finish with cherry notes and sweet grip. Tasted somewhat New World tonight with fruit-forward, seemingly accessible nature, but could gain complexity with a few years in bottle.

  • Nice wine - a little new world-y in its concentration and richness. But refined and elegant all the same. Would like to follow this but don't have the space.

  • Dark and mature. Huge for the price. Refined well beyond the price. Drinking nice now

  • Expressive nose of strawberries, cherries, herbs, breadcrust, vanilla and licorice. Quite powerful for a pinot. A bit new-wordlish but not lacking the balance. Good acidity and a long aftertaste. It definitely drinks above its price point.

  • Very nice color - dark but not too dark for a pinot. Nose had not opened up that much after an hour, but it was drinking beautifully. It was not especially fruity, and it actually had a lot of herbaceous notes that I would associate with a wine from Provence. It's delicate and light but still has great concentration and flavors - exactly what I love in a wine. Seemed to get a little tired at the end though.

  • WOAH! This wine was very dark! Not only for a Marsannay but for a Burgundy in general. Plenty of oak and fat juice. reminded me of a cool climate California Pinot Noir in the nose. Some chalk and milk in the aftertaste. Dark I say that this a Marsannay that needs cellaring? Yes I do! :-)
