Opened up nicely after about 2 hours in decanter. Drinking nicely - has appropriate typicity. The rumors are true - 2009 S. Rhones are drinking very pretty right now - more obviously so in higher quality producers - Gigondas especially.

Nothing remarkable about this Rhone GSM, but it was rich and tasty. I liked it more when it was right out of the cellar and still cool (55F - 65F) and tight. As it warmed up, the oak notes began to appear which, for me, tend to diminish its freshness.

(Third of four wines served at Thanksgiving 2012) Much improved after a double decant, which released the grip of some pesky barnyard odors before we hit the dinner table. With some air it revealed nice plum and peach compote flavors with hints of blackberries. Nice, but it suffered in comparison with the Margerum M5 that followed.

A reasonable value at $15, but nothing that would make me run out and buy more. Earthy, dusty aroma with some rose petals thrown in. Funky barnyard and woody scents and flavors with plum and muted spices.

Decanted,
Has evolved nicely, solid tannins, ripe fruit.

Nose of anise, iodine. Anise, bramble berry, seawater, tannins....well structured...young!

Not bad for the price. Typical smooth & earthy elements of a French blend.
