Upon popping the cork, wafting perfume that could only be described as explosive. The sweet aroma literally fills the room.
The ripeness of the fruit is excellent, wonderfully balanced. Lifted acidity and freshness on the palate, with firm mineral backbone. A Nebbiolo for Burgundy lovers for sure.
It has been said that some of the top flight Barolo producers put a lot of effort into their Langhe Nebbiolo, e.g. M.T. Mascarello and the Rinaldi family. They try to convey the spirit of their winery and their tradition, and I cringe when people call this a lesser wine. In my eyes this should be viewed as a flagship bottling, because it is here that you can truly appreciate the "house style", whereas at times, I can get lost in the density and complexity of the array of riservas and single vineyard offerings.
This bottle showed beautifully, and won over some friends not familiar with the joys of Piedmont wines. Not easy to find in the US, but so worth it, if you have the opportunity. Excellent QPR, with great style and panache.
robe - very burgundian , transparent, red violet , no orange brown tones. very pretty nose - started off pretty and primary with red and blue fruits moving into darker fruits, bark licorice and some nice spicy undertones. not soaring, but very very nice and open palate - dusty tannins and clean acidity are the rails for really beautiful red and dark fruit. the length of this is also quite impressive. this surely can pass as a " barolo" and is better than most. with a quick decant, this is open for business !
** i found this more fresh and lively than the o9 giacosa counterpart. saving my last btl for another 3 to 4 years and to no surprise, this was more lush than the 08 a few years ago. this is not overblown or anything close. i wish that i had bought more and excited to open the btls of brunate that i have

A few hours of breathing and this is singing. Tannins settled, acidity matching the nice fruit. Elegance, yet intense. Very Nebbiolo. Nice length on the finish. This is drinking well now. Recommended!

bright translucent red, clear rims. Pnp. Expressive aromatics of freshly cut roses, strawberry, lavender, dried cherry and some damp forest earth. Alive and vibrant on the palate, layered and precise in its fruit with fresh acidity and grippy, persistent, fruit derived tannins on the close. This wine is graceful and elegant, with well defined ripeness. However, it is the lovely floral notes which stood out for me on this occasion. Light on its feet, yet retaining enough structure to develop over the coming years. Something about this wine screams classical nebbiolo, and i enjoyed it very much.

Ruby(ish) on the rim. Nose very expressive already when at opening. Very typical Nebbiolo on the nose, the palate follows but I feel it is lagging somewhat behind. Tannings are smoothing, great acidity matching the fruit. Clearly benefits with time in the glass. Some great elegance over this one.

Alot tighter than the previous bottle. Aromas of herbs, blood orange, red cherry, cherry cores, earth, tea, roses and oil paint. Bone-structured red cherry taste, slightly stalky, herbal tannins, cherry cores, bitter grapefruit. Mineral/earth/dry black tea finish. Tough mf, super trad style, slightly more relaxed after 2h. Respect! And, yes - we found a whole macerated grape in this bottle too.

Far more fleshy than the previous and delicious. However, I missed some definition and acid, and in my opinion this will not hold the same class as the 2006-vintage.

Pure nebbiolo nose, bit shy at first, opens up nicely. Red maraschino cherries, trad botti paint-box, raspberry and cherry cores, wet stones, liquorice and underlying herbal notes. Light body, fine-grained grapeskin tannins, fresh raspberry/redcherry aromas, smooth acidity, medium length. Lots of charm and super drinkability, perhaps better drunk young. A whole macerated berry was to be found in the bottle!

Young and tight nebbiolo with roses, dark cherries, tar, herbs and licorice. High acidity, drying tannins and medium to long finish.
I like this pure style without oak. It was not a surprise to find 2 grapes in the bottle.
