Again, one of the many Rioja we tasted last night -- with Rioja not being one of my preferred wines. Inky dark, with muted dark fruit and smoke on the palate.

Giant Wine Sale & Tasting 3/10/2012 (Cellar on Greene, Columbia, SC): I'm not typically a fan of the red wines, usually from the Mediterranean area, designed to drink young. If they don't go through at least some malo lactic fermentation, I usually don't like them. I did like this wine. It has seen a little oak, and the best I can tell, some malo lactic. Still it has bunches of that youthful exuberance that makes you want to keep sipping. The color is almost black. The nose has a very sweet note, probably from some or full whole cluster fermentation. The fruit enters with big fresh ripe blueberry. It is somewhat on the simple side, or should I say uncomplicated? They wanted to bring us the fruit, and it works. There may be come carbonic maceration.More than anything else, the oak rounds things out rather than impart any flavor characteristics. There are some of those enhancing white pepper and spice flavors in the background. Just barely medium bodied. Fruity, easy on the palate finish.

Nose of strawberries with some spice, but not too much. The palate is unctuous, with strawberries upfront, and cream coming in just before the finish that balances acid and tannins. Not the most complex Rioja, but a great value!

Raspberry nose, with hint of pepper Light to moderate tannin. Bought this based on other community references. It should compliment steak well. A little pricey but it is Flemings.

This is a nice style spanish Rioja - like others have described. Light nose of dark fruit. Palate is light to medium bodied with nice light acid and fruit - some light earth that adds nice level of complexity. Great price. Young and may mature a little . I would have no problem serving this with dinner/guests. I also enjoyed just sipping "peri-dinner"...

Very similar to previous notes, with more spice present on the mid-palate.

À ce prix, aucun défaut.
Nez très invitant; la bouche ne déçoit pas non plus; finale plaisante.
À racheter.

65% Garnacha, 35% Tempranillo - very nicely balanced between fresh and light, almost Gamay-like but then also a more robust kick from the Tempranillo.
