  • In a delightful zone at age twenty-two. Spice and stem filled nose adds complexity to the mature raspberry and red cherry fruit. Palate is chock full of still-sweet red fruits that show serious nuance and earthen, spicy, herby complexity. Long, seamless finish.

  • First of a 6-pack. Relative to a recent 96 Cristom Reserve, this is more light weight and moderated. Still quite nice with good complexity of earth and spice below the red and black cherry. Fresh and easy drinking. Should hold just fine but not up to the heights of the vintage given (what I understand) are young vines.

  • Westchester Wine School: USA Pinot Noirs (White Plains, NY): Drank at WWS pinot tasting-my contribution to the list of wines this eve (my last bottle of Cristom, unfortunately). Solid ruby color, some bricking but the wine looks like it's aged quite slowly. More earth than fruit aromas on the nose, as expected. There's some red fruit here, but mostly tertiary elements here: forest floor, some spice, a bit musty, and definite notes of black tea. Surprisingly, still fairly tannic. Overall, this wine's a bit past its peak for sure (fruit has faded) but the wine has developed in lovely fashion and turned out to be quite a nice surprise. Voted WOTN, though not vs. the stiffest of competition in my opinion.

  • Tasted at Cristom, had been open for a couple of hours. Deep red hue with slight bricking at the rim. Nose was of moderate intensity with developed characteristics: brandied black cherry, bramble, soil, black tea, iodine, dried red flowers and hints of Asian spice. Sappy yet lean bouquet. On the palate the acids were still present but soft while the tannin was completely integrated. The wine was balanced and finish long. Flavors followed the nose with tertiary notes: soft, preserved
black fruit carried through a velvety midpalate with tea, dried rose petal, wet earth, some quiet spice and a bloody gamey quality. Terrific wine. I would start moving through these bottles now and enjoy over the next year, maybe two.

  • lovely bottle - opened about 1.5 hours before drinking. Nice rasbery and plum. I am guessing this bottle is still in it's prime for thenext couple years.

  • Should've been decanted, but the bottle was opened an hour and a half ahead of meal. Showing quite well. Initially, ripe blackberry and raspberry flavors, and then black currant on finish. A little sweetness does linger on the palate. Nice complexity from well integrated tannins.

  • This stuff really aged beautifully. I thought it was very nice, although the food it was paired with wasn't all that interesting, and not a good choice to go with the wine. I think this stuff still has a few good years in it. Looking forward to trying the Marjorie sometime in the next year as well.

  • Dark ruby color. Nose quite nice with blueberries and mountain flowers, not quite nostril-filling. Palate harmonious and balanced, giving off blackberry Indian spice notes with a little bit of tea. Finish moderate. Tannins still a bit angular. Great with the last(?) copper river salmon of the season.

  • Healthy ruby tint. Full nose of floral notes, spice, cinnamon, and dark berries. Concentrated etched flavors of primary blackberry fruit right in the hollow of the tongue, tiny grains of tannins. Finish still a bit astringent. A fine effort, and great with grilled salmon.
