Fairly bright red color; fresh cherry fruit with mild confected bakery scents (like a frosted cherry pastry). Clean and supple red fruit palate (unlike some gnarly '98s). Shows very nicely tonight!

dynamic nose of nougat, dark cherry coulis, cedary spice, pine, cinnamon, tree bark, mint and humus come through. Still brawny and shows relatively medium + to full-bodied flavors. Ends with present, firm tannin.

Nice nose - a bit closed on opening. Blackberry, coffee, spice and sous-bois with medium intensity. On taste fine tannins still in force with nice acid balance and a long finish. Still early for this wine, but unlike other Arnoux bottlings not as extracted. Very nice but just opening to entice you in. Just not ready yet. A bit coquettish.

Depth and complexity, this PN has a lot going on. Despite its age this showed much better after an hour of decanting. Smooth and refined, tremendous mineral, plum and earth elements, a real pleasure with food.

Round and mouthfilling, flavors of succulent plums, sublime, ethereal and ephemeral. This wine is pleasing, with balanced fruit, structure, presence, and yet hard to put your finger on exactly why it is so pleasing.

La Paulée de San Francisco - Gala Dinner (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Late night, small glass, brief note. Mature red and black cherry with subtle anise and black pepper. Very fresh and fun, if just moderately complex. Fun and good now.

Fine burgundy dinner (Alyn Williams at the Westbury): Big boned, a bit of funk, some edge, plenty of flesh here

Very deep, layered wine. Robert Arnoux again made a top performance.
