Our last tasting of this wine was ten years ago, when I wrote, "Medium bodied, blackberry, black cherry fruit, leathery cedar and black tea on the moderate tannin finish." Tonight's tasting experience was consistent with my notes from that earlier tasting. Ten years older and later, this was still drinking well, showing no diminution of age, albeit not likely to improve with any further aging. We served this from a magnum which likely contributed to its aged condition, as large format bottles tend to age better, longer. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2019/04/del-dotto-giovannis-tuscan-reserve-1999.html

Absolutely delicious and held up well over the years. Don't believe this wine is over the hill, especially if you've stored it well. I bought it on a trip to Del Dotto in 2003.

Deep purple in color with a nice browning at the edge. 13.5% alc w/ slowly forming legs. Nose of burnt embers, dark cherries, and black currants. On the palate, medium to full bodied with firm, somewhat astringent & dusty tannins, showing through with sweet, dark fruits like plums, candied cherries, and figs, with a bit of earthiness on the pleasantly long finish. A nice surprise for supposedly an OTH wine.

According to the drinkability, I should have consumed this by 2005. I was amazed to see that it was fantastic. Still rich in color and was smooth. Very enjoyable.

Did not realize that according to the experts this wine should have been consumed a few years ago, it was spectacular. Decanted it for 2 hours prior to serving and it was wonderful with some grilled steaks. Nice nose and extraordinarily pleasant on the palate. Smooth with an exceptional finish.

while according to the winery it should have been enjoyed a few years ago, to me it tasted as if it was at it's peak. The color was a gorgeous deep berry red. The flavor was smooth, with hints of dark cherry with soft tannins. Delicious.

Cherry and dark chocolate. Some dry tannins on the finish. I think this still has some life left to it, especially if cellared appropriately. I've had mine since it was released and stored at 55 degrees. Very nice wine.

From a friend's cellar. Decanted, not sure how long. Deep garnet color. Meaty, smoky aromas, and dark fruit. The palate is slightly tannic, full of dark fruit flavors, well-balanced. Nice finish. Much better showing than the last bottle of this I tried. Could be 91/92 with a couple more years in the cellar.

Dark garnet colour. Aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate, raisins, alcohol. Full-bodied with red fruits, spice, leather, sliced, black plums. Moderate finish ~25-30s with red fruits, plums. Tannins integrating nicely, but could use another year or so in the cellar.

I decanted and aerated a bottle for an hour. It was a little thin and clearly past its prime. Showed hints of a stronger past.

A solid Tuscan blend, well rounded and tasty, at or near it's peak. Glad we drank it now.
