Not the biggest fan of this wine when purchased. Getting much better with age. This was the 9th bottle of the case. Benefits from air. Dark black fruits with a long finish.

Dark color, medium body, nose of black fruit and earth. Tannins have softened but still present, with firm structure. Flavors are balanced, although fruit seems to be on the decline. Still very enjoyable. Dead ringer for a Right Bank Bordeaux.

Maybe I'm having an off night but this didn't do anything for me, whereas in the past it would have brought some pleasure. Good color, heavy sediment thrown at pour, light nose of cherry/blackberry. Tasted of bitter sour cherry/black cherry as did an '03 Uriah that I popped immediately after but this too was only marginally better. No TCA/TBA that I could detect but there was some Volatile acidity that had often accompanied the wine in the past but never, heretofore, gotten in the way. These wines have never seen temperatures over 65 degrees, even in transport and 55 thereafter. Who knows?

Brought to CWM dinner at Machu Picchu with Paul and Stefania. Still not showing any visual signs of age, but it seems the tannins have integrated nicely. Palate and nose of black fruits.

CWM dinner with Paul & Stefania (Macchu Picchu Restaurant, Chicago, IL.): This was one of the wines which LostVerse brought. 2nd time I have had it with consistently fine notes. This wine has lost it's baby fat in the 9 years since I first had it. Solid core of red fruit. Firm tannins. Dark berry notes. Rich mouthfeel. 93 points

Purchased upon release. 65% Merlot 30% Cab Franc 5% Petit Verdot - 14.4% alc. Color is youthful and shows no sign of age. Medium bodied with notes of red fruit, tobacco and cedar. Slightly acid and austere, definitely developing tertiary characteristics.

Medium red color. Aromas of blackcurrants, chocolate, licorice and a touch of cedar. Ripe, silky fruit in the mouth with very good structure, depth and length. Much fresher and more complex than the tasting notes would suggest. At peak.

Smoky blackberry, a little chocolate, lots of dill, a little dried tobacco leaf and clay. Harsh mid palate with pronounced pickle juice note. Disjointed acidity on the finish. This industrial concoction continues its downward slide. Drink up.

Tasted blind. The nose was mostly void. This was a tanninc wine that had no distinct flavors to focus on. The '04 is one of my all time favorites, but the '01 is officially on probation.

Bottle was opened but not decanted. Dark purple in the glass and opaque throughout. Not showing any signs of bricking or aging in appearance. Nose and palate of blackberry and other dark fruits, along with some spice and oak. Lengthy finish.

I was a lil disappoined with this. Uriah is one of my all time favs and the 00 & 01 have really lost a lot of what I love about them The velvety mouth feel and concentrated fruit. Of course I expected it to mature in the bottle. There were smokey notes, leather, dark berries. Drank a while back so don't remember all the lil details but I say this is a drink now wine!

Bottle broke in my luggage en route to New Orleans - quite a mess. Not that disappointed as the other bottles I've had have not overwhelmed me. (With the dry cleaning bill and ruined clothes, an expensive bottle of average wine.)

Interesting nose of smoky raspberry, briary redcurrant bush, lemon oil, flowers, a touch of anise and a pleasing Bordeaux earthiness. A little one-dimensional on the palate with bright almost zesty raspberry and a vanilla edge. Moderate length on the finish which shows a little remaining tannin and an acid edge. The acid has integrated a little compared to a couple of years ago. Seems to have the legs to go another 5-6 years at least.

Bit harsh & volatile, d2, wow!, dense opaque ruby, tangy red fruit & toasty oak on nose, b4, a4, t4, big & gritty w/plenty of tangy acidity, superb fruit & oak is okay, give last one some time, still very youthfull!

Realm 2004 release tasting at Kaspar's (Seattle, WA): Nasty. Pickel barrel nose. I really dislike that. Candied fruit. Black cherry. Tomato peel. Some grip to it but yuck, I really didn't like this in the glass.

2/04: With small group: fabulous, rich nose. Just as described...solid fruit with coffee/tobacco notes. Truly unique. Spicy, but darker, not cherry or light. Really great. Wonderful finish.

Forward aromas of smokey raspberry and dark cherry, vanilla and a hint of dill. Intense berry fruit mid-palate. The finish is a little clipped at this point with some tart acidity and ample tannin. Hopefully this wine will integrate over the next 2-3 years (and then it will merit a higher score). However, I fear that the acid will persist as it ages.

Deep purplish ruby, araoms of plum, cherry, spices, pie crust, toast, flowers, high-toned raspberry, b3+, a3, t3, very nice balance, thick fruit, mouth-coating tanins are sweet & well integrated, nice acidic backbone, heat is well-concealed

I liked the 2001 better than the 2000 vintage despite its youth and awkwardness at this early stage. Aromas of crushed grape skins and vailla on the nose. Full bodied with sharp bitter tannins. Notes of cocoa and black fruit but this needs time to show more fruit. Huge potential and I will rate it accordingly. 94.

Nose of smoky oak and over-ripe blackberries, the point where they turn tropical. The palate began with more toast and oak. Sweet dark fruit with a dry finish. Thick and extracted, lacking complexity and structure. Finish a tad short for such a big wine.
