Thankfully this one wasn’t corked. Have had A LOT of issues with bad Roar bottles.
Strawberry central but in a muted way. Nose is terrific and all elegant fruit. Zero tannins. Chocolate, touch of plum but not figgy. Pomegranate, potpourri, Rose, drink up.

Very nice bottle of Californian Pinot! Dark fruits dominate the nose, smooth texture followed by an almost burgundian spiciness and earthiness. If it wasn't for a bit of heat at the end, I would have rated it even higher. But overall a very impressive wine that everyone at the table liked.

LOVE me some ROAR! This Garys' is delish! Dark wild berry, plum, cranberry, cherry fruit….juicy with pillow soft smoothness…..complexities of dried cherry/currants, potpourri/Asian spice, cola tingle, earth tones. Great balance of sweetness…sautéed cranberries in butter and brown sugar…with savory minerality and forest. Smooth...with a good spice kick, stems funk, and pretty florals. Dujac?? Great stuff!

Color - Ruby with a hint of brown Nose - pepper, forest floor, sour cherries, leather, cola Medium body, long finish, medium high acidity, taste consistent with nose with a hint of green pepper The acidity makes it a food only wine to really enjoy

Medium bodied. Smooth. Red fruit and undertone of cola with moderate finish. Less earthiness than in other years. Probably ending near of cellaring period.

Showed a lot of red fruit, but didn't seem heavy handed. Leans a bit toward the bigger style, but still well balanced and showed well against several other California Pinots.

Ruby in color slightly cloudy. Nose of red friuts, pepper and spice with some forest floor. Slighty acidic, cherries, plum and vanilla. Medium body and finish

On first opening this, the color, the prevalent oak and vanilla on the nose, the extraction, made me wonder if this was pinot at all and not cab. Really. If you like really big pinot--and even some Burg-o-philes would have to admit they do under hypnosis--this could be your thing. I still like the Roar Rosella's--plenty of finesse, but gutsy--but I am moving away from this winery's style of overlarge Pinots. It's a stylistic thing, not really a criticism--okay, I'll admit it: It actually seems to miss the point of the grape, with its unique aromas and flavors. The new Sierra Mar and, of course, the Pisoni are in the same vein, so it's safe to say that I'll be ordering nothing but the Rosella's in the future.

Beautiful balance, very drinkable, medium bodied, smooth with enough fruity mainly red and without any angular tastes...from a consistent over performer.

Second bottle after a 2010 Kosta Browne RRV. Fresh aromas of raspberry and cherry. Red fruit and cola across a moderate finish, with nice acidity. Very enjoyable, just not the same class as the KB.

Darker end of PN spectrum in glass. aromatic cherries and barnyard. Smooth, with taut acidity balancing ripe cherries on palate. Long finish with hints of spice rounding out the package. Very attractive, will improve with a little more bottle aging

Popped and poured then consumed over two days. Very pretty red fruits, soft and round on the palate with nicely integrated structure. Very compelling over several hours. By day two, the wine had gained weight, perhaps too much, but the cola and tea notes in the finish also deepened.

One of the more enjoyable Roar's from the last handful of years. This has a 'yummy' factor -- it simply tastes good. Lots of red fruit, as expected, but some spice, a bit of earth and some light toast round it out. Good finish. Certainly a crowd pleaser.

Nothing from Garys' compares to the utterly awesome 2005, but this wasn't too bad. No real notes but a solid 92...but it was substantially better on the last sip.
My take..hold for 12-18 months. This should get to a 94.

Just bought... Very impressive Pinot Noir! Aromatics of sour cherries, raspberries, a slight hint of toast and wonderful roasted spices. The palate was very persisting displaying mature red berries including raspberries, noticeable but mature tannins, spices and gentle acidity to give it al balance. Wonderful wine, though a little young. A must buy!

Pinot Days 2011 (Navy Pier - Chicago, IL): One of the wines of the day. And what a cool opportunity to meet THE Gary. Great cranberry, caramel, sweet baking spice - clove nutmeg. Minty menthol. Complex.
