- Garnet color with slow forming legs and aromas of tea, chocolate and coffee. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry, black pepper and cherry with a medium/full body. Polished texture with a long finish - Decanted three hours. Served with lamb rip chops, Italian white beans and roasted Italian mushrooms. Wine is great, needs time to open up.

Color, clear ruby red; 1st nose, red fruits and framboise; 2nd nose, toasted oak; on the palate, smooth with plenty of fruits and some lingering tannins with medium finish. Paired well with seared filet mignon and roasted heirloom carrots.

Such a different wine from the L-M Syrah ‘07! Not quite - but close - to being opaque. The nose is spicy with cigar smoke, wrapper leaf, plum, mineral and iodine. It delivers a bit of smokiness as well. The mouthfeel is much leaner than the L-M, but then you’d expect it not to have that California ripeness. The L-M was the clear table favorite, but that was almost a foregone conclusion. Nevertheless, this is a distinct, solid wine in its own right. 15.5% alc. (!) With boneless prime rib beef roast in celebration of the Augusta Garden Club’s completion and publication of its history by Deedy Bumgardner, Clair Bell and Deneen Brannock. 01.25.20. Recommended.
Lagier Meredith Syrah Mount Veeder Napa Valley, Ca. 2007
Popped and left with a dollop of air added from my tasting sample for about 2 hours (but in retrospect, decanting is justified. A collection of fragrances swiftly rises from the glass - black olive, plum, blackberry, caramel and black pepper. This tastes very fruit forward compared to the Chateauneuf du Pape of Grand Veneur (Alain Jaume), what with its silky fruit fowardness on the palate all wrapped in power and finesse of tight tannins. It still needs time before it shows off its undoubtedly velvety profile. A bit more integration of the tannins and that velvety quality will show well. Some sediment. 14.4% alc. With boneless prime rib beef roast in celebration of the Augusta Garden Club’s completion and publication of its history by Deedy Bumgardner, Clair Bell and Deneen Brannock. 01.25.20. Recommended, but hoping for “Highly Recommended” one day.

Nothing deep or complex, but full throttled, forward, and enjoyable. Dark fruit, meat, underbrush, pepper, stone. Like a good Gigondas. Drinking well after 1h decant

Tasted second day open. Murky garnet color. Tight nose gives little, but weighty and rowdy in the mouth. Raw meat, blackberry, black licorice, and cream. Seems young.

Tasted blind. Apparently double-decanted and back into bottle 1 hour before drinking. At Chateau Davyd. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet spices, black licorice, cassis, perfumed violets, black pepper, blackberries, black cherries. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, high alcohol (15%), gum-drying grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, blackberries, cassis, black licorice, sweet spices, slight black pepper. Medium+ finish. Very good quality. I was guessing that this was a New World GSM showing some degree of restraint. That explains it. This is a modern style CdP, but done quite well. Definitely some usage of new oak barriques here. Young now, drink in 4-5 years' time. Should be a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and others.

- Brick color with slow forming legs and aromas of tobacco, coffee, cherry, dusty and licorice anise. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry, black currant, fig and black pepper with a medium/full body. Round texture with a long finish - Decanted 6 hours. A very young wine, but rich and bold!

Popped and poured and drank over two days. A bit closed on nondescript on day one but picked up weight, concentration, richness, and the wonderful classic Chateauneuf flavors of dark fruit and kirsch. I'd say to hold this one for 2-3 years and it will improve for another 10 years.

Wonderful equilibrium and depth with a real sense of history; along with the fruit, and fine grained tannins, you can taste the ancient earth. Definitely not ready but exceptionally delicious and satisfying nonetheless. Much to ponder.

Right out of the box this opaque crimson Châteauneuf (a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre) entices the taster with an intense nose of ripe blackberries, crushed rocks, espresso bean and roasted herbs. The wine is full-bodied and very fresh on the palate (despite being quite ripe and carrying a labeled ABV of 15%). The ripe black fruit and mineral flavors carry on throughout a solid middle and lengthy finish. The hardest task when tasting this New World-style Châteauneuf is putting down the glass! It should drink nicely over the next 15 years. Drink now-12/27.

Still a solid wine, why certainly past peak. Starting to move towards the 'gooey tomato sauce' thing that plagues older Grenache.

It was ranked middle of the pack in the 2010 CnP Tasting, but at a price of $30 it was really a winner on quality to price ratio.

Like most 2010, this needs some years to blossom. Tobacco and leather comes through but is sloppy. Decant for several hours if you drink now.
