Just brilliant and standing up to Burgundy competition, but in an Australian context. Still young though with some beautiful development. Cherries, red fruits, eucalypt, forest floor, hint of vanilla. Just fantastic.

A fabulous Pinot noir from Australia. Winner of the gold medal for the best Pinot in Australia that year. Lighter than some California pinots the delicate palate is simply delicious. I wish I had bought two bottles.

2013 Sydney Royal Wine Show - Exhibitor's Tasting & Trophy Wines Lunch (homebush & Darling Harbour): [Gold medal] {screwcap, 14%} Crikey. I wondered if this was faulty at first. Fungal, bilgey, cabbage-like nose. Composty. Hmm. The palate is much better; not about fruit, but earth, peat, mulch, dirt. Texture. Medium dusty tannins, medium intensity. Quite even palate. Only barely medium-bodied at this point, but I guess the idea is for years of cellaring to bring it around. Perhaps the nose will evolve with air. A surprise in every way.

The nose is quite tight and reveals minerally, savoury, spicy dark cherries, plums, raspberries with hints of lemongrass. The palate reveals concentrated, but elegant, savoury, spicy dark fruits, mainly cherries and plums with raspberries. The acidity really kicks in towards the rear palate along with smooth tannins. The length is long and persistent.

2012 Sydney Royal Wine Show - Exhibitor's Tasting (Olympic Park, Homebush): Bronze medal. {screwcap, 14%} The pinot trophy went to Coldstream’s non-reserve ‘little brother’, interestingly. This has youthful plummy flavours framed in french oak. The are ripe blackberry flavours with some authentic varietal stalkiness, lots of fine-grained oak, medium-weight body, fine and quite low-level powdery tannins. It finishes dry, medium-length, with good coverage along the tongue. Well-judged wine with a long life ahead.

Drank over 2 days. Bright color with its distinctive Pinot nose. Great balance and a sweet f Nash. Delightful with its age.

A bit raw and young. Put aside and drank 3 days later. Developed quite nicely with good fruit and a good finish.
