Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Very good. This had a typically Roumier nose, really expressive and in-your-face, with a blast of ripe cherries, earth and meat, and a bit of brambly herb at the back. The palate was quite open for a 2010 - the great big fruit and the acidity of the vintage were there, but not in a disjointed way. It had some of Roumier’s fleshy, ripe expression in the red fruited attack, and then lovely mouthful of spice with a bit of bramble and minerality moving into a long, long finish. Way too young of course, but this was readily impressive, with a subtle power and depth wed to a real focus and definition. 93+

Klar. Ren.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting. Cross section of red and black fruit, with black cherry most prominent. Lots of power and concentration from start-to-finish with spice mostly coming through middle-to-end. Very good density and length. Really wonderful wine, one slight step up from the sensational Chambolle-Musigny Cras also just tasted.

La Paulée de New York 2013 Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): Lost my notes on the Roumier wines, but as a group they may have been the stars of the tasting for me. Tried the Chambolle, Chambolle Cras, Morey Bussiere, and Ruchottes. Great sense of elegance, purity, depth and energy across the board. Stellar lineup!

Focus on 2010 Burgundy- The 2013 La Paulee Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): Of all the Roumier wines, this has the most obscure fruit. At this early point, it is soil filled and soil driven. Same weight as the Chambolle Cras but a bit less palate impact. If given the opportunity (which I won't be), I'd pick the Cras hands down over this wine, and it is not just a preference for Chambolle over Gevrey, but one of balance and potential.

La Paulée de New York 2013 (Metropolitan Pavilion, NYC): Nose and palate attest to big, heavy, dark fruit, far more masculine than other wines tasted at the Roumier table, palate has a slight bitter tannic bite on the finish. Will be amazing I'd wager with 10yrs.

Powerful nose, but with grace. Power shows on the palate too, but not as friendly a wine now. Spicy and firm, serious - "spine" says Christophe. Excellent length.

It possessed a beautiful regal nose. Palate was multi-layered and transparent with weightless power. It also had very good length.

Very complex, accessible, and drinking well for a youngster. The 2010's Ruchottes all presented very well.
