  • Pretty classic northern syrah, if ripe and round from the vintage. Nose bacon fat, pepper, lavendar, blackberry and plum, cherry, chocolate. Palate fairly balanced, if a tad hot, a good mix of secondary notes and fruit. Moderate finish. Greatness is not achieved, but for a $20 syrah from a very warm vinttage from the north, it meets expectations and then some. Nearly crosses into the overripe zone, but it stays just shy of it.

  • Classic northern Rhone, if a bit ripe and fat. Classic tones of roast meat, blackberry, floral hints.

  • Similar to last tasting note. 20 min decant. The wine has softened a bit and while still drinking very well is probably nearing the end of it's drinking window.

  • Let it breathe in the decanter for over an hour, still continued to open up as it was slowly consumed over the next hour or two. Very dark color. Nose of brambly fruits, particularly blackberries. Slightly funky (in a good way). Still fairly tight with good acidity. Medium tannins, medium+ body. What was a slight cinnamon note initially, continued to evolve into a downright spicy finish as the night went on.

  • Second Sunday Group: Montalcino (Leon's): Good deep color with notes of dark fruit and florals- violets- with peppery/spicy overtones. Medium-bodied and flavors of black fruit, plum and tapenade. Very nice.

  • Needs a good hour of decanting - and don't be shy of double decanting.

  • Two hour decant, a nose of dark fruit, cloves and flesh. The palate is medium bodied with a medium finish, with raspberry, blackberry, a hint of smokiness and flesh present as well. The tannins and acidity are in step with eachother. A solid effort, not spectacular but tasty.

  • 1 hr decant. Nice perfumed nose of blackberries with notes of smoked meat and pepper. Similar on the palate. Well balanced and elegant wine that is drinking very nicely right now. Medium body with nice long finish.

  • This was dark garnet and purple colored, medium full bodied, aromas and flavors of full, forward ripe black berry and black cherry fruits accented by a layer cracked pepper, herbs, and tones of smoked meat, hints of creosote, medium acidity, gripping but approachable tannins.

  • Drank it tonight at Burlamacco Ristorante with my roommate from my University days.

Colour is dark purple, with a oaked and plummy nose. The aroma is charming and filled with red berries.

On the palate the wine is rich and generous with berries and cherries, but gentle with food and makes a satisfying dinner wine. Rounded and smooth in the finish.

Overall, a delicious wine made in a elegant and graceful style. Lacking the complexity and richness of a Bordeaux, but a highly palatable and commendable wine in its own right.

  • Incredibly appealing bouquet of perfectly ripe dark fruits and berries, herbs, cracked pepper, coal, charcuterie, tar, and hints of smoke. Delightfully balanced and harmonious palate, lively, mouth-coating, and utterly delicious. The wine rides a line between traditional rusticity and flamboyance. Excellent QPR. 91-92.

  • This wine is quite dense, with a concentrated palate of red and dark fruits, smoke and spice finishing with chewy tannins; Some additional air time revealed minor notes of pepper, earth and game, although these really took a backseat to all the fruit; A tasty Northern Rhone that should evolve further with a few more years in the bottle

  • Wonderful nose of earth, meat, and black pepper upon pouring into the glass. Bought this at the wine shop in SLC to have at the Copper Onion with their wagu beef. Great match. Palate had dark berries, meat, pepper. At times it was quite tannic. This certainly has 5 years left in it.

  • Nose: This took a little bit to open up, but it then revealed balanced and meaty tones of black fruits, black pepper, black cherries, and some dark red fruits with a bit of crushed rocks.

Taste: Full bodied with medium+ acidity and some sneaky, but chewy tannins. The structure is showing the youth of the wine along with silky and cool tones of black fruits, dark red fruits, black cherries, and black pepper.

Overall: While this does need about 3-5 years to fully show itself, it is showing pretty well on the young side right now. This saw about 2 hours of air before drinking and it's still a little tight, but the wine has a coolness and attractive quality to it.

  • Decanted and poured - Vinturi'ed.
Medium Red. Nose shows a lot of fruit, sweet cherry, raspberry and strawberry with undertones of medicinal notes. Very expressive aromas. Getting better as it breathes.
Served with roasted chicken breast over noodles, sweet potato and fresh tomatoes with lots of good balsamic drizzled about.
In the mouth it is tannic and filled with red fruits still. Sour Cherry and sweet raspberry. Medium full body with some heat and a big, long finish. Needs time still, but it is tasty now. Will check back in an hour or two.
+2 hrs: Well, some wood smoke came out with time, but the rest seems pretty stable. Very tasty.

  • Vivid dark red color, only slightly transparent. Really engaging, classic smoky and meaty nose of plum, dark cherry and iron along with a hint of violet, totally screaming Northern Rhône. A really strong and open nose, and a good one. On the palate very juicy, full of dark fruit at first. The second part however is much different: beautifully sour, almost salty cherry action with some spicy flavors. The juicy, fleshy fruit in the beginning is a bit on the soft side, but once the acidity kicks in this really drinks like a pure Syrah. Very good lift, tight mouth drying tannins. Tasting this wine not so long after drinking the Dominique Piron Côte du Py really helps realize how much N. Rhône Syrah and Cru Bojo have in common. Regardless of Guigal's reputation this is by no means a big bruiser but instead a very nicely structured, medium-bodied Syrah that is definitely faithful to its roots and a joy to drink with a steak. At one point I shortly noticed some toasty oak on the nose, but never any on the palate, which is nice. The only problem I have with the wine is that my teeth are almost black after sipping this. Mega purple, anyone?

  • Cherry candy, bright, yellow and red flowers of violet and lavender; lovely, aromatic, silky with grippy tannins and good balance.
