  • some slight seepage coming out from the foil made me concerned and prompted this to be opened. Luckily all is sound.

nose - cherry, burnt sugar, with some savory light soy sauce elements
mouth - lush red plum, burnt sugar, a spiciness somewhat reminiscent of cocktail bitters, followed by a long lingering finish. Full of flavor without weight. A wine of elegance rather than power.
In its window but this can continue to develop for a while still.

  • PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Fruit” day): Pale ruby with bricking rims.

Tons of liquorice, mature darker red cherries black berries. Some earthy notes

Enjoyable now but not setup for the long term? Interesting as no one guessed remotely of the vintage.

    94 points.

Second round, 1/3 left: medicinal and liquorice notes, very good integrated acidity and minerality. 94 points. Some more green and mossy.

  • Slightly reductive in the beginning (nail polish nose) but reduction nose blew off after opening for 2 hours. Sweet red and purple plums on the nose, wild strawberries, modest earthiness, on the palate, silky texture with round and gentle tannin and nice acidity, still a bit young to enjoy at this stage, think it will develop a lot more complexity with age.

  • Keller Open Afterparty (Weingut Keller, Flörsheim-Dalsheim, Germany): I still remembered the 2010 Chambolle Charmes we had last year, but this was clearly a step up although the basic parameters are the same. Also this Premier Cru from Vosne shows the pure elegance of a Pinot Noir. Totally on the red fruit side mixed with this Vosne spice, some flowers and minerals. The acidity is so lively, fresh and vibrant. This is all I search for in Pinot.

  • No points given in light of the circumstances (thinking is in line w/Meadows, though, score-wise....). An interesting bottle, this. Arrived a few weeks ago following year-ago pre-order. Seeped during shipping. Went back and forth mentally quite a bit: return to retailer or consume early and hope for the best? Went for the latter (obviously), in part due to the irreplaceability of the wine. Not happy about the situation, to be sure, we popped it open tonight and hoped for the best. Cork soaked completely through, as expected. Some early marks of oxidation showing on the bottle lip. Initially overwhelmed by reductive odors and feared the worst. Blew off quickly, however, and the wine presented its beauty. Very big and premature, of course, but gorgeous on the overall and sure to be a showstopper circa 2020+. Impeccable balance, beautiful mixed fruit, acidity, calm but visible tannins, the works. Enjoy your hopefully better-handled bottle down the line sometime......

  • Intense and concentrated, lovely depth and complexity with some sweetness on the palate - very pretty. There is a question of reduction on all these Hudelot-Noellat 2010s, we'll see.
