Wynn's Black Label vertical (Frank's place in Matraville): Pencil shavings, earth, a little eucalyptus, sweet blackcurrant and spices backed by cranberry and leather. A little volatile on the palate which lends sharpness to the acid, cranberry and blackcurrant, grippy tight tannins, slightly chalky, fruit persist and is joined by a little spice and a herbaceous element. Nice.

Wow Just Wow. First from a full case I have had from release. By Coravin sample. I was not expecting such an interesting wine. This is still going strong. Still very transparent red with no hint of brown. A little pong for the first few seconds and then opened up with delightful stewed fruit and ceder. It still has great length with soft tannin and good acid. Oak has fully integrated and still a hint of mint. Still some fruit but in general a great old wine. You have to love the understated back label. A good vintage and " Excellent drinking for a few years."

GMs - Aussie Classics: Blackcurrant, licorice, black cherry and ash. Spice and black fruit on the palate, with the structure holding well. Perhaps the acidity stands aside from the fruit a little bit and based on this bottle it is probably time to drink these over the next few years.

Excellent, as a year ago 13.5% alc? has aged perfectly and would live many years yet. Peter Douglas winemaker still. Colour: deep black berry and dark chocolate, some browning at edges Bouquet: mint, dusty leather, coffee and vanilla, cedar, black cherries and olives, very savoury Palate: as bouquet, soft chewy tannins but some primary fruit still together with the developed secondary characters, full bodied, long clean finish. Some vegetal character, but not in decline by any means. May 2016

Excellent, brilliant vintage for a consistently good wine. 13.5% alc. Amazing for 21 years old, with lots of fresh fruit still, tempered by integration of all components and developed characters. Colour: dark black chocolate, bright blackberry edges Bouquet: mint, dusty, dark cherries and black olives, cedar, coffee, vanilla overtones - gorgeous Palate: similar to bouquet, savoury, leather character, vegetal, full bodied but balanced - strong fruit character still, big soft chewy tannins, long clean acid finish July 2015

Drinking beautifully for an entry level wine. Think I actually prefer this to the John Riddoch of the same vintage of which I also have a couple of cases.
Medium body, medium length, integrated tannins and now very secondary in nature.

Certainly youthful considering its vintage. Deep purple, just starting to show secondary characteristics of leather on the nose. Still very fruit forward with dark berries, chocolate, hint of earthiness, well rounded resolved tannins, good acidity and balance. A pleasure to drink.

NobleRottersSydney - Wynns Cabernet vertical: 86, 90-00 (Lucio's, Paddington): (13.5%) Deep red – no bricking here. This is a bit closed in some ways, presenting a monolithic nose of mint and vanilla – as though the American oak was dominating in the winery. There’s some sourness of fruit – which is more pronounced than the last 2 wines. It’s endearing somehow, and gets a little better sitting in the glass. It’s relatively big and brutal – could be a less successful version of the 90. Hard to call for me - will it look more like 93 with time or gain richness? A sleeper?

Absolutely singing. Funk on the nose. Blew off after a decant. High fill, well cellared. Fruit, tannin, balance, spice, harmonious. Yum.

This is a belter of a wine. Completely defies belief that this is now 20 years old. Still so young, fresh & enjoyable - an absolute pleasure.

Lovely. Minty and slightly vegetal, leathery and savoury, blackcurrant still there. Mouth coating tannins. Nicely balanced.

Rich chocolately and savoury cabernet. Leather and dark chocolate on the nose. Rich and smooth mothfeel with lovely chewy tannins.
