  • Another very good showing; PnP, and it was ready. Very good. The oak is well integrated at this point; tannins will need a few more years to fully resolve, but showing well now, too. Crisp, precise, long, complex med>med+ body with vibrant typicity, and plenty of fresh acidity. It's just getting started, and it's off to a good start. Most excellent with braised lamb. 14,0% abv., natural cork, drink now thru 2029. highly recommended

  • Deep, stimulating nose of Earl Grey tea, bramble berries, and sage. Structured finely, ground flowers and raspberries with engaging herbal tea notes. In a good place now.

  • Tasted at Villa Sparina in Piedmont / Gavi. P&P. Super intesne nose full of tar, ripe red fruit and a floral overlay with the latter best described with the signature roses or rose water. Thanks to the 10 years of bottle age the tar is already leaning towards a bret-type character. Balanced on the palate with soft tannins, medium intensity and a finish that I would have expected a bit longer. The nose is stunning and would deserve a 95-96 score, but the texture is a bit too thin for 95+ and 93 is probably a fair relfection of the overall experience.

  • Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2016 Edition; 10/21/2016-10/23/2016 (Piedmont, Italy): Opened and served. Had this at a Tratoria in Alba so not sure on keeping.
Quite rustic in style. Medium bodied, good fruit stil albeit a few sharp edges here and there. Decent wine, probably better younger or at least if it was kept better. Felt like an 87 but not sure how characteristic so we will not rate.

  • Poured into decanter and drank over 2 hours. At La Barca with wife.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of roses, iron earth minerality., red cherries, toasty oak spice, meat, and strong violets with air. With even more air, classic tarry earth and roses. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of concentrated dark red cherries, iron earth, tar, sweet spices, licorice. Long finish.
Very good quality. Modern style Barbaresco that's not overly done. Enjoyable with a decant. Will drink well over the next 4-5 years.
Plot is located partly in Barbaresco itself, partly in Treiso, and partly in Basarin of Neive.

  • Tasted at Gambero Rosso in NYC: Coffee, pepper, gripping tannins were very strong. This is an aggressive wine that needs lots of time to settle down.
