Medium red deep in the glass, light red at the rim. Red cherry and dust with no signs of any tannins. This wine has passed it's prime. Drink now, don't wait!!

Decanted about 30 min. then drank over 3h. Color is well evolved, ruby red with an orange rim. The fruit on the nose is rather restrained with a streak of alcohol. The palate is somewhat dispapointing, initially I get what somebody described as wet cardboard, later an oxidized / Sherry-like touch becomes more prominent while tannins are still present. Rather short finish. Cannot imagine this will get any better, disappointing for such a reputable Brunello producer in a decent vintage.

Loved this. I don't know (or care) if this is considered flawed, but it was a dead ringer, aromatically, for hoisin/soy sauce. On the palate, it was deeply savory and pruney, and even reminiscent of cola. Strong acid and a powdery texture also made it lots of fun to drink. While I recognize that not everyone was a fan, I couldn't get enough of it.

Opened about 30 minutes before dinner (no decanting), drank with stuffed pork chops, and for a few hours after. Initially, the nose was black cherry, dark fruits and spice; over time, the fruit lightened a touch and the spices seemed to turn floral. Well balanced, it drank nicely with dinner; after dinner, the acidic side seemed a bit more pronounced, making the wine seem fresher and lighter. Tannins are fully integrated and smooth. Black cherries and grilled meat on a reasonable finish.

Not decanted. Dark ruby colour. Aromas of black cherry, black licorice, sottobosco, licorice, leather, dried flowers, spice, and cream. Medium-full bodied, tannins nicely integrated, shows good acidity. Black plums, black cherry, sottobosco, and hints of truffle on the palate. Spice notes develop with time. Moderate finish, ~30-35s, with black cherry and earth notes. Drinking quite nicely now, as are several other '98s consumed recently.

From magnum. Ruby-red colour. Aromas of cherry blossom, mushrooms, dried violets, earth, and sandlewood. Medium-bodied, with cherries, dried flowers, earth, plums. Tannins integrating nicely, but still present. Moderate finish, ~30s, with currant and plums. Needs another couple years in the large format.

An evening with Mrs. Sunshines husbond... (Søerne): Tight, tannic, fresh, good fruit; quite young still - and very well made. Years to go, will improve.
