  • Last bottle. Decanted. Open at 1h after decant. Now 3.5h decant. Aromas of just ripe blackberries, unripe blueberries, herbs, black olives and mildly tangy roasted game meats. Char grilled game meats with crushed tart blackberries, herbs, bark and mild olives. Excellent acids on a medium bodied frame wild mild tannins. Moderate finish. Structure clearly rests on its acids. Juicy and delicious. Aging well and I wish I had more. 90+

  • My last bottle, and I wish I had more. Solid blueberry fruit complemented with leather, spice and earth tones, is supported by balanced tannins and fresh acidity. The finish has a bramble berry note that carries to a deep mineral bath. Delish!

  • From memory. Decanted but no significant sediment. Tart black and red berries up front with nice acids. With more air, flavors of mild roasted , leather, and earth emerge. Tannins are resolved with an elegant, bright texture. Not sure if this will improve much more with age but drinking really well now. Nicely done.

  • Two years since my last bottle of this wine, and it is in a wonderful place. Red fruit, herb, leather and earth tones all mingle together on the nose, and the palate is largely resolved, so that the flavors are carried on the acids that are well balanced with the level of fruit. It's remarkably easy to drink, and did well open 24 hours, holding the same fruit level, and gaining more definition of developed character.

  • From memory. Beautiful, elegant and lithe. Fruit flavors with some savory meaty elements all there. But the elegant texture took center stage.

  • Hitting its stride, comfortable enough with itself that all the pieces are on display. Lovely.

  • Jim waited a long time to release this wine. I am very happy he finally let it out, as it's a beauty, and perhaps my favorite wine that he has produced. It's not typical Syrah (perhaps why he delayed release so long), but it is both interesting and delicious in its lack of typicity. Red raspberries and roses dominate the aromatics, rather than the darker fruit and tar/smoke elements that usually signal a Syrah wine. On the palate it retains the elegance the aromatics suggest, being barely medium weight, and quite transparent in expression. There is structure here, with both acids and tannins playing a role, and they work in concert with the fruit to create a balanced whole. I have not had a Syrah quite like this, so I am not sure what to say about aging it, though I think there is plenty of fruit to reward a few years in the cellar. I'm not sure my bottles will last very long, as it's very easy to drink.
