I'm a bit surprised this is only the 2nd Kilikanoon wine I have ever tried (or at least written notes on). Fruits are mellow for the region, indeed quite elegant, but remember of course this is a 10yr wine and in that context drinking well albeit at the end of its optimal drinking window. Soft prunes and a spike of heat late. Shortish finish. Drink now.

Abundant dark fruit upfront with sweet tobacco, nutmeg, allspice and mocha on the mid-palate, segway into some fig and black pepper on the medium+ finish. Juicy mouthfeel with toasty oak and mild, velvety tannins.

Nice restrained nose with oodles of black fruit and chocolate. Very big palate. Sweetish, plummy black fruit with some cocoa richness too. Very long. Powerful stuff (14.5%), yet very good balance. Curiously temperamental when it came to matching with food though, as any more than a hint of sweetness in a dish seemed to kill it.

Magenta-garnet. Strawberry jam and wet oak nose. Raspberry compote, black pepper, dusty cherries, slightly bitter tannins, soy sauce, heat, and a medium finish. Interesting, but not that tasty.

Lots of oak on the nose, crowding out most of the fruit.
Oak, vanilla, cherry and raspberry on the palate. Full and lushly initially but that really does off. Leaves some white pepper spice on the finish. To me this is over oaked and too extracted for my tastes.

Reddish purple in color with a watery edge. The nose is sublime and evokes impressions of reddish fruits in the order of raspberries, sour cherries and red plums with an over powering presence of vanilla oak. The palate is fairly similar to the nose with the red fruits, heavy handed oak treatment with a touch of leather and tobacco. Overall a fairly smooth Aussie old vine Grenache with a rather simple yet pleasing personality.

Similar to last time, but even just a tiny bit better. It has aged very well.

Quite settled down since the last time I had it. Lots of garrigue, almonds, black cherries, pepper, smoke, and a sappy medium length finish.

Improving over time but lacks the brighter fruit tones of Grenache. Still mostly plum, cocoa, prunes on the palate.

Much more balanced than the last bottle. Loads of dark fruit with plummy, cocoa hints. Still too over extracted for my taste.

Seemed OK, perhaps peaking or slightly past. Liked it.
