I did not rate the wine as I think it is a good Amarone, but more to the extreme. It had a strong raisin-like flavor; this is probably a plus for a good amarone, but it does not appeal to me. I bought 2 bottles at the recommendation of my favorite wine supplier when I returned from amarone country in 2012. I will give my other bottle to someone who appreciates a strong amarone - maybe I stored it past its life, although I see that 45% of this bottle purchased are still in the cellars.

Very different from the prior bottle. This one was far more port-like. Lots of dried raisins on the nose and a good whiff of spirit. Heat from the 15% ABV was noticeable on the palate. Felt somewhat disjointed.

Fully mature, soft Amarone, with lots of dried raisin and herbs on the palate. It matched perfectly with Lasagne, showing its full complexity and length. Beautifull.

The Wines of Valpolicella (Thief Wines, Milwaukee): Deeply coloured core. Dried cherries and raisin notes. Smooth. A tad porty and spirity. Fresh and fruity with a tannic backbone. Needs time to settle down from its young petulant stage.

Shows more restraint than I remember. With touches of oak on the nose. Not quite integrated I would say. Bill notes its tightness. All balled up. Just opened though. Probably needs a bit to loosen.

Almost completely opaque deep cherry red with slightly maroon rims. Very rich, expressive and quite sweet nose with aromas of very ripe cherry, milk chocoalte, some smoke and a hint of dusty earth. Somehow the nose reminds me of chocolate confefctionery with cherry filling. The palate is very full-bodied, rich and unctuous with supple and slightly sweet flavors of red cherry, oak spice, bitter dark chocolate, some ripe dark plums and a hint of smoke. With air, nuances of aromatic and medicinal herbs emerge along with hints of blueberries. Moderate, balanced acidity keeps the wine from coming across too heavy, but the tannins are really soft and easy, which feels a bit too soft far a big wine like this - the wine simply lacks any bite. The finish is a bit drier and more savory than the midpalate, but also a bit short and very warm. There are flavors of red cherries, some dusty earth, a little chocolate shavings and a hint of herbal bitterness in the aftertaste.
A good basic-level Amarone that is better drunk early than cellared. Is not on par with the best Amarone della Valpolicella Classicos, but definitely a good example of Amarone outside the Classico zone. However, the wine is really overpriced for its quality at 36,79€ - at this price you can buy practically any of the best non-Riserva Valpolicella Classicos (bar Quintarelli or dal Forno).

Magnifique! Généreux sans être alcooleux. Plein de fruits secs et confits, juteux et onctueux.
