Drank this last night in honor of my friend Rich who had purchased it. Enjoyed toasting with Lisa Zach and Randi Feigin. Opened and poured. Had no fruit left but was not terrible initially. Lots of earth in it. As it go more air, it died quickly and got very tart. Was really fun to toast in his honor, but not very drinkable much after opening.

Opened for Kelsey's 30th birthday. Popped & strained (cork fell apart); surprisingly vibrant for a 30 year-old wine from a mediocre vintage. Dark burgundy in color, nose of leather, earth and a bit of cherry fruit. On the palate, very restrained fruit...all black cherry, becoming sour on the finish. Secondary flavors have now moved into the front, with saddle leather, bramble and earth, and cedar really becoming evident. The fruit is still there, but behind everything else. This started declining quickly with VA really taking over, and a mustiness starting to show after a couple hours of being open. We each had a half-glass and dumped the rest. Very interesting to try it though!

ORANGE ON THE EDGE. CIGAR BOX, CEDAR, LICORICE, & BLACKBERRIES IN THE NOSE. FLAVOR LIKE THE NOSE WITH BLACKBERRIES & BLACK CHERRIES MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH.

Date of this note is an estimate; month and day, but not year, were recorded. With K at the winery, medium red. Attractive nose, very nice on the palate. Good, but something's missing-character. 5-10-15-6: 86/`00.

Well preserved, lots of tertiary on the pallet, high acidity serves as a strong back bone.
