Pre Davos Wine Forum tasting (Zumikon, Switzerland): Somewhat oxidized on the nose. Hints of green stalk and some pickle moving to an interesting gunflint note. Despite being a bit tired, this features a pretty and supple palate of sweet cherry. It is a bit simple, but it is certainly a pleasant drink (and a historic wine).

New Year's Eve: WineSpectator.com Offline, San Diego (San Diego): Top shoulder fill. Decanted gently and served immediately. Hazy blood-ruby color. Notes of tart red berries, cedar, leather and iron filings. Beautifully balanced, mellow, seamless, medium body, lingering finish. My #3 tonight. The winner of the famous 1976 Paris Tasting, still going strong at age 39.

Generously provided by Javachip. Thought it would only be a historical amusement to taste but once again I was wrong....
Impressively young coloring; earthy and grapey nose; textured berry/cherry flavors along with chocolate/cocoa and orange. Crisp, bold, and youthful! An extra point or so for the legacy of this wine but this was genuinely excellent.

Couldn't believe how fantastic this was after all these years. Big, bold Cali cab with tanins and fruit that just wrapped around the mouth. Finish went on forever. Bought this as part of a 10-bottle veritcal that I purchased mostly for historic reasons. Far exceeded my expectations. Look forward to drinking the other 1973 and the other vintages I have. Will be tough to match this bottle.

Historic wine. It won the 'Judgement of Paris' tasting in 1976, propelling California wines onto the world stage. The wine is still alive. Very dark with amber rim. Intense red current nose with a hint of tar. Full and rich in the mouth with fruit still present on a moderately long finish. It seemed to blossom after an hour in the glass. What fun experiencing history in the glass!!

Wow, still has plenty of life in it! Bought this for husband as a gift, largely due to historical value...never expected the wine would still be this good.

San Francisco MONSTER Offline - 31 Notes, Pictures & Review of the Evening: The wine that beat the French Bordeaux wines in 1976. Lead Pencil, bacon fat. Roasted beef. Still some grip to the mouth with still in the mouth with a great feel. Long deep finish. Just fantastic. MY WINE OF THE NIGHT!
